Re: Opinions on BMW F650 Dakar Please
Bought a 2007 Dakar last year with 40,000km, to go to Morocco on, went the previous year on. 1200GS, a bit on the heavy side in the sand!! The Dakar was far easier to handle and carried full luggage and camping for three weeks.Mosel Bikes wrote:What they like? reliable? mpg? touring capability?

The Dakar is a great bike, really enjoy riding it, especially around the Pyrenees.
It's good on or off-road.
The Morocco trip was 6000km, and no problems at all. All in all a good all round touring bike, with a bit of luggage.
Over the 6000 km of mixed conditions, road to sand and all in between 73.49 mpg.
Oil used 0 (none)
Off to the HISS Aragón on it and looking forward to riding the trails of Spain.
I think they are a good bike, and really enjoyable to ride, to date no problems, just tyres and service. (thumbs) Regards
Will

We had one as well. Totally reliable, the 650 engine never needs any oil topping up as far as I'm aware. Valves hardly ever need doing, very economical, good for everything, commute, holiday, gravel tracks etc.
Get the later (twin spark plug) one.
If we hadn't wanted something lighter for more tricky off-road stuff we'd still have the Dakar !

I loved mine, rode it to the Pyrenees once including doing a rally and then rode it back home, got 71 mpg.
Comfortable, reliable and decent build quality. The only thing I didn't like was the soft front end, fine for the road but too soft for off-roading.

Got a sertao , more or less the same as the dakor .Bought it on a wim for a trip I'd got planned with some mates never got off but like the bike and kept it anyway. its greater than the sum of its parts , its ridiculously frugal and with a few excesories gives it all day touring comfort.
