My 950 rebuild

Post by HorseyBiker »

I got a little bored on eBay last week and bought this...all I can say is whomever crashed it did a very good job of it!

Moving it around got a lot easier when I remebered I had a spare husky front wheel and axle... Bodged it in and the jobs a good'un!
Image

The top two tubes of the frame have sheared completely, and not on the weld!

The front wheel is severely deformed, along with the discs. Surprisingly it still held air! It took a fair amount of beating the rim with a lump hammer just to get the spokes off calliper so I could remove it from the disc.

The engine looked okay from my brief look over it. Some mild corrosion to the water pump and generator cover.

I've got it stripped back to the frame engine and subframe and am now waiting on my new frame before I take it further apart... Haven't taken a picture of it naked, I'd lost the light by the time I'd tidied up.

Mmmmmmmmmm,

nice project (thumbs)

I've got panels, discs and other stuff if you need anything, not freebies but I'm not going to charge you an arm and a leg (geddit) :)

cheers, Bob.

Thanks Bob, you may well have a PM soon!

Steve, It's not recorded amazingly, so I'm going to swap the frame, repair the mashed front end, update the V5 with the new frame, mot and ride! The replacement frame isn't in my hands yet so I don't want to count my eggs early but it should be a fairly quick turn around!

Should be quick if you have all the parts needed.
I've just done a valve check on mine and also welded up the rear exhaust so had to remove the subframe as well, not much to them once the bodywork is off is there!

Those frame fractures are a classic failure in the 'heat affected zone', the area adjacent to any weld. Rather an extreme demonstration though.

So I've got most of the back end stripped off now.

Started cleaning the swingarm. It's gross! But once you scrape off the 3mm of grease and road muck, you find shiny aluminium! It's not finished yet but I've left it with degreaser on to soak.

On closer inspection the frames failed even more than I originally thought..

I also found a puncture waiting to happen in the rear tyre!

Quick question, Ive started taking the airbox/carbs off.. And had a quick flick of the throttle and noticed the slides aren't moving... What's not connected properly/broken? I've included a short video... Sorry it's in vertical!
