Advise and guidance needed. Still looking for a half decent trailie/off roader.
After trying and not enjoying a Honda xr600r(kick start or rather not)Im considering a Yam TTR250 advertised Fleabay. Do you think this under powered. Has anyone had experience of these m/c's.
Or can you give me some pointers as to what to go for. Ive a limited budget of £1000.00 ish, so wont be a looker, and not really fussed, will need to be road legal though. My usage will be limited to local rides.
Any input most welcome....

I've just flogged my TTR. A brilliant trailee, a doddle to fix and will go everywhere where the 400 - 450's can go. Has 6 speed as well which is great. I took mine on a few camping jaunts last year fully loaded and it did every green lane with no probs.

Re: Yamaha TTR250
Ive been on a few rideouts with someone who has a TTR. It keeps up with my Africa Twin off road. Definately a nice looking bike and if you are only looking to ride local then yep, go for it.
If you want longer distances then Id say no, dont bother. They are not suited to long distance mileage (IMO). The lad I ride with has to trailer the TTR for any distance over 50 miles or so. Just not comfortable to ride long road distances.

I've never looked at the TTR250 before but it seems perfect for me too, cheap and 6speed.

I'm sure it will get you anywhere you want to go and have fun doing it.

Re: Yamaha TTR250
Superb machine imho. I end up servicing a mates as he can't be trusted to do it if you get my drift. For green lanes its one of the best, another mate did the first D2D 24hr as part of our team so they will do the hard stuff if required. They are ever so slightly underpowered for lots of road use but a downshift perks them back up again. At the bottom of the airbox is a short tube with a squeezable clip on it which acts to collect water, this needs emptying, squeeze it when buying,it will give a good indication if the owner knows the bike. Good resale market for them too. Pegs could do with being bigger as usual but I think a YZ set fits.
The secret of a long life is knowing when its time to go.

Seem capable enough:

Dodgy Rammstein track notwithstanding!
Edit: Love the ewok-on-a-speederbike riding position in the rocky gully! (1:25) Very good rider though.
It would seem the list of adventure/trail bikes I might be interested in in the near future will soon include all adventure/trail bikes!

Another plus for the TTR here :cheer:
Had one as my only transport for 3 years & covered just about all of Kent on it, Tarmac + Dirt, no probs.
Mine was a 1993 Jap model, White with Purple frame & wheels. Metal tank & a digital speedo. You'll be very lucky to pick one up for £1,000 though.
