I just use a nylon ziplock, about 5mm wide and cut to right length so it just catches the
lever

You could try a crampbuster instead.

I Had one a throttle mate for my US trip but it snapped so I popped into a Harley shop and bought a crampbuster.

It is brilliant and unbreakable.

They can be bought on Amazon for £6.60.

Crampbuster linky

The thing I liked about it was that you are still in control of the throttle. You rest your wrist on it for cruising and for up hills you just bend your wrist a bit lower and on downhills you lift your wrist a bit to stop the bike running away.
Also if you let go, the throttle shuts down. With the Throttle mate the throttle is semi fixed.

I used it on highways and when I entered a town, I just pushed the crampbuster all the way forward and out of the way of my fingers. When back on the highway, I pushed it further round to where it started.
