North Coast Run and a Sea Eagle??

Post by Moorso »

So took the opportunity yesterday to head out along the North Coast Run (Go Pro videos to follow). Just outside Dunluce Castle (and I got it on video) there was a huge (I mean massive) bird of prey that flew directly in front of me. It had a brown body and a white(ish) head with a yellowy hooked beak that was also big....any bird lovers out there any idea??

Will upload the videos when I've edited them, but here are some pictures:

It sounds like a sea eagle. It wouldn't be that far as the eagle flies from Mull or somewhere to Northern Ireland.I saw one once in Norway and it made the seagulls chasing it look tiny! :)

So here's the first video: this is the north (main causeway) bit of the route (the second video is more the Glens of Antrim). I slowed the video down at 4:40 where the bird flies from right to left in the shot. Alas the resolution isn't so good that it's easily identifiable.

I see you found our favourite parking place at Ballycastle.....ice cream sitting on the wall looking across at Mull of Kintyre. 5pm having ice cream, 10.30pm Cork.

The North Coast Run is definitely one of the best.

Bit of a raptor fan myself, a sea eagle was sighted around Torr head a couple of years ago and i saw an eagle possibly a golden eagle in Donegal a few years ago, they make a buzzard look small, and a buzzard is fairly big.

Cant view your footage on my tablet :(

We did indeed park up at that spot in Ballycastle....aswesome views.
I was starting to overheat in the leathers!

Aww Flintock....damn....must be the music. It worked okay on my mobile, so I assumed tablets were okay too.

I'll post the second one and see if it works too.

This bird was huge, and it was in complete control, had judged my speed, just gracefully soared in front. Spectacular. We have buzzards over our house, so I'm pretty confident it wasn't (even a large one) of them.
