How to reduce Jpeg file size

I'm hoping that one of you IT savy guys can help me out.
I have some pictures of a modified Lucas regulator that I want to put onto an owners club web site but the file size is too big being 2.7Mb. Is there a way to reduce the file size without zipping up the file?
possibly by reducing definition?

Just for interest. The mod was to fit a V-reg unit into a standard case and keeping all of the original wiring connections to the regulator. Worked out well. I'll post the pics if I can get the size down. Might interest those with older bikes.

Normally an option in your photo hoster (Photobucket etc etc) to resize the image.
Photobucket is 'edit' then 'resize' then 'save'

If I remember it's

right click on pic
send to mail recepitent
and when the attachment comes up on the email screen it's automatically reduced
Then just drag it to another folder

Do you have a mac or pc DS?

If a pc, you probably have picture viewer, open the pic & set the size / resolution to something considerably smaller. Exactly the same with mac & preview. Save it as a different title so you dont degrade your original pic

Tis a pain & your photo may come out as a tiny thumbnail. Alternative is to host it from your own account on flickr etc & just insert a link.

I'm a bit of a computer luddite, so you may find the next post makes more sense / gives better advice

Another for the list. If you're a windows 7 or above use. Just double click on the image so it opens. Then you should have an option top left to edit. Hit that and it will open and image editor with a resize option top left. If the folder you have opened has multiple files they will also apear in the editor. You can select more than one before you hit resize.

Handily it keeps your orginal and stamps the new one with the new file size you have changed to. For forums 800 x 600 is normally ok.

But any resizing will loose your resolution. If you want to keep the resolution. Get a photobucket account. Upload the full image and share the url on the forum.

If you want. You can do both.
