HELP!

Post by paula »

 need advice on good boots...have tried a few and have been....well underwhelmed by what I have found to be honest...doing a tour in sept for 6 weeks through France, Spain, Morocco, Portugal and don't want to carry a shoe for every senario if you know what I mean. Boot 1...frank thomas aqua (were on the inside) and had to go, to bulky too with massive sole. Boot 2 Daytona, real light weight and cosy but so slippery I nearly broke my neck in them....selling both and thinking about Altbergs, what do we recon to those?

For what it's worth I got TCX Infintity boots last September. 3,000 miles since then, riding most days, and I haven't given them a second thought. They're that good.

my boots are excellent (hein gericke tuaregs) very comfy for walking in, but they are def of the "big and clompy" variety. altberg are a quality make.

Don't know about Altbergs, but I'd certainly recommend the TCX Infinity Goretex – mine are actually Hein Gericke Rallye boots, which were the same model sold through HG stores. Really pleased with them, extremely comfy and completely waterproof, 10,000 miles of use and they're still like new (well once I put a bit of boot polish on they are :-) ). Would definitely buy them again – don't know about sizes. You'll want something that's got a bit of give in them for walking about, which rules out most of the road-race style boots.
In June this year I undertook the whole Nature Rally in one trip, in aid of Riders for Health

I have several pairs of Altberg boots 1 for walking in and one for riding in. The riding boots are years old at least 20 and they have never leaked once and are really comforable to walk in. Highly recommended
cheers Spud ;)

I have a pair of Altbergs. Went to their shop and was fitted for a pair. I paid the extra to have the Goretex lining but in all truth I have not ridden much in the wet - yeh fair weather biker, lol. They were then made to order on site. I was even given a tour of the manufacturing shop and showed all the stages.

They arrived a few weeks latter. Very comfy. Mine are a road based classic style with buckles, not the off road style.

A friend who is now an ex-copper had Altberg boots for his day job and found them extremely comfortable.

If you want if you wear them out you can return them for repair using the original lasts.

I've been wearing Altberg clubman's now for over 6 years, and they've had a lot of use - they're still as good as the day I bought them. Never had any dampness - totally waterproof (not Gotetex). Would highly recommend. Quality UK made boots.
