Campsites in Scotland

Post by Kebabmonster »

Maybe should be in a different category, mods feel free to move it (sorry  )

Have only just got the KLV 1000 recently with the intention of doing a few Scotland camping weekends with my 11 year old son come the spring. So what I'm looking for are recommendations for campsites for a single tent for me and my laddie.

I live not far from Newcastle, so not far from Scotland, and even tho I've only had the KLV for a week I reckon I can do a 6 hour ride no bother (did 6 hours on a 99 ZX6R in September 4 days in a row).

So I'm asking for campsites within about 6 hours of Newcastle that have good facilities (postcodes and/or websites would be great).

Thanks,

Andy

I've heard about Applecross, and seen a link to pics on this forum looks magic. I'll put it on the list.

I stopped at the Red Squirrel site in September, was a good site, good facilities and a relaxed place, and according to google maps only 4 and a half hours from here.

Places like that are what I'm after :)

Thanks.

Me an a pal stayed there on our trip in September. Lovely setting and as it was a no cloud night, I've never seen so many stars in my life it was incredible. The hill up to the boozer was a killer mind  but the showers were ace.

Only thing I'm thinking is, can I get there in 6 hours from Newcastle???

I've used the one down Glen Nevis a couple of times and it's not bad but it's not the cheapest.

If it was just me going I'd wild camp but if you want a few 'facilities' that'll not be much use to you. Wild camping on a motorbike s great until it rains all day and you want a warm shower when you've got your tent up and standing under a freezing waterfall fails miserably to achieve the required results.
