which photo hosting websites do people recommend?
hello hello. im thinking of joining a photo hosting whatsit to store photos and videos whilst im away for a few months. i dont particularly want others to see them and would like to keep decent quality so i can download em again when we get home. also i may have to do the downloading in big chunks, as and when we find internet. i have no idea on storage size as i have no idea how much space a photo or video takes up. any thoughts? cheers. karl.

I have tried a few over the years but settled for flickr.com and have been very pleased with them.

You said that you don't want others to see them and it sounds like you may have issues with internet access on your travels.
Will you be taking a laptop with you? If so my solution would just be to use "Dropbox". If you haven't used it before you just install the dropbox app on your laptop and you get 2GB free internet storage. Put your pics in the Dropbox folder on your laptop and whenever you have internet it will sync them to the internet automatically.
You can get way more than 2GB for free by following the "Free Space" link on the Dropbox website too.

i'm using photobucket. the new website/interface has been panned by almost everyone. i was on the verge of leaving has it slowed down to the point of being unuseable. i'm a paid up pro user as i might load 600 photos after a race meeting. i then found the problem myself after a lot of hair pulling out (and i dont have much). when they launched the new site the software no longer re-sized the photos you uploaded to the size you required. therefore if the pic was 5mb in size and you had 600 to load - well lets just say it didn't work! so now i use a simple program to copy and resize my pictures before uploading. i then delete them on my laptop and only keep the original pics.

ok reading your post again. i clicky cam photo can be about 2mb but a SLR can easily do 5mb imagines and higher so uploading from a cafe somewhere might be an issue. video -just a short 30min clip of HD footage will be several gb. vimeo is one of the best for HG video storage but you are limit unless you pay. it the upload again that will be an issue. youtube etc reduce the frame rate and quality so its ok for fun clips but not so good as a storeage centre. I'd buy plenty of cards. they aren;t too expensive. upload as a backup (reducing size) just in case you loose them.
