Post by moto al »

Mike krauser was the man we have to thank for starting manufacturing proper motorcycle panniers.in the 70s he brought out this bike, not my cup of latte, but some of his ideas went on to be used on later Paris dakar machines some pics

Don't get this who invented panniers stuff . Panniers were used by the British army in the first world war, and also had considerable use in the second world war ,have seen them fitted to Matchless 350s BSA M21 and also Norton ES2 motor bikes. In fact l have a world war two pannier in my possession. It was used as a fishing bag for many years and is still in useable condition. If you are ever near Lichfield you are welcome to see it. Panniers are only a follow on from what was used on horses for many thousands of years.

B)

Remember seeing one of those "nice" but not my cup of tea, and I remember my older brother having some old 50's Craven panniers on his old Triumph, besides the germans also used panniers during WW2.

What Al said was... Mike krauser was the man we have to thank for starting manufacturing proper motorcycle panniers.
By which I interpreted it as being the respectable suitcase type of panniers, not ex WD canvas, or ex Police Craven style of the era.
The end of the road is the start of the fun

So he's the bloke that copied Craven (and others) then improved on the idea to the point where we can all expect decent panniers if we buy a bike with them fitted. I'd buy him a beer for that alone.

Very CB900F looking those bikes. I like that whole 80's look!

I've a Krauser alloy belly pan on my Crosstourer, quality kit.
Honda, the power of dreams.
