Contour Cameras gone bust!

Post by RoadTrekker »

Contour have closed their doors and are going into liquidation it was announced 2 weeks ago. :(

So look out for some cheap offers as dealers and ebay try to dispose of their old stock . If you are tempted to still buy one then just remember there will be problems with warrantee !

I have had my Countor HD for 3 years now never had a problem with it and was about to upgrade to the Contour+2 until I read about them folding up.

That should please GOPRO and improve their sales even more.

Shame they have folded :(
I shall keep my eyes peeled for any bargains B)

well that is a perfect example of what happens when the founder and the ceo of the company looses focus and starts believing in himself as a new business guru and the answer to all worlds' prolems. Maybe instead of writing books and going through conferences proudly presenting how clever and great entrepreneur he is, he would have actually focused on running the company, you might have seen many more great products and a prosperous company.

Its the old story that the CEO enjoyed all the trappings of a succesful product then failed to keep up the development and also poor marketing investment. Lets hope someone buys the company and starts production again. I love my old Countour 720p never gave me any problems except for poor sound quality. So GOPRO have no opposition now they can domminate the world.

Having read good reviews on them I recommended them to a mate for the Hafren rally in 2011. Imagine how disappointed we were when the front filled up with dust within ten minutes of starting the lap! Hence I didn't get one. Got a gopro black and love it.

got drift 170 HD. I quite like the thing. It is somewhat waterproof without the case. Not to be submerged for prolonged times without case. It sort of died on me only once after half a day in water, no probs, at home I dried it up with my missus hair drier and its fine again. I love the display on it. you can see what youre shooting so you can set the camera angle perfect first time. also no matter how you mount/rotate your camera, rotate the lens and footage is always right way up. Also my films from scuba are much clearer than mates go pro2

I would rather think that it's gonna be harder for GoPro. In the last 6 months there was a new company entering the on-board-cam market every week. Just recently Garmin, JVC and Sony launched cameras and they all look better than GoPro.

I still wait for a camera where the battery lasts 8hrs+ ... just for convenience
