People take picnics because it takes an hour to get out of the place, if you're lucky!

I went to the WSB round the other week and it was empty.
As I approached the circuit, I thought I must have come on the wrong day. There was no traffic at all.
Strange given the relative success of British teams and riders in the series.
Maybe it's an indication of the end of the sports bike boom. Going to Donington in the days of Fogarty et al there seemed to be thousands of Ducatis at the circuit, with a supporting cast of ZXs, GSXRSs etc. Where are they all now?
I've got an invite to the M GP, so it will be interesting to see if the situation then is any different.
But Silverstone is such a huge circuit, it's far easier to follow the race on TV.

No, that was probably an all-time high for British motorcycle sport.
Others that may be close equal or better:
Hailwood on the Ducti in 1978 in the IoM and at Mallory Park
Roberts v Sheene in 77 at Silverstone (I think)...anyway the "oh look, he's waving" GP.

Silverstone is 12 miles from my house I never go because its a car track n ot very good for viewing as its too flat,i went to the wsb round at donnington and anybody who goes to a BIKE event in their car should be charged,iv'e been going to all the bsb rounds[ except Silverstone]for a very long time and all the cars that go now are ruining it for me.

People take picnics because you have to remortgage or have a touch on the lottery to be able to afford to eat there!davsato wrote:People take picnics because it takes an hour to get out of the place, if you're lucky!
Even the ice cream vans have chip and pin. Very few people carry that kind of cash.

I went to the GP last year for the first time in years and at the prices it will be years before I go again. No wonder there are empty stands. Drop the price and more people will go.

What I did last year was go on the Saturday, which was cheaper and very interesting because you could see how the riders 'worked' the circuit, and there were no crowds so you had good views, then watched the race o the TV the following day.
