Hi Guys..

well as I`m getting older 47.5+ :laugh: my hands get numb and tingle terribly even after a short ride..

The ta650 has renthal enduro bars with progrips fitted with gel inserts..used to have std bars with oxford heated grips..and had similar probs..but not as soon..

The honda bars have rubber mounts off the top yolks and they are okay..the Renthals have bar ends to add weight..I use either std biking gloves or lightweight enduro and get the same thing happen..

solutions please...I`m thinking of filling the Renthals with expanding foam...or should I use clear silicone bathroom caulking..surely it cant make it worse? just deaden the vibrations down a bit.

I`ve got a 2k europe trip next week and it needs sorting..


The transalp has had a recent service and new plugs and carbs balanced not that they where out by much..seems worse between 4 and 5 k which is where I ride on the fast A roads and motorways..

Two causes spring to mind;

1) Holding on too tight. Make a very conscious effort to relax while you are riding.
2) Medical. I can't offer any advice other than speaking to your doctor.

alternatively, get yourself a big single, then you'll really know what vibrations are and the Transalp will feel like silk when you go back to it :laugh:

It might sound dumb but try not tightening the wrist strap on your gloves and/or jacket as tightly. I had the same problem for years but found that wearing looser gear solved it. Maybe some people's nerves are more prone to suffering from pressure I don't know but it works for me.

i had this on my ta but enlarged the grips with wrap around heated grips and it sorted it. i had to enlarge it a fair bit mind

Get your doc to check for carpal tunnel, very common and show a variety of symptoms, worst case I ever saw could'nt even raise a beer glass. hmy:

I have ladys haands according to the boss :laugh: all small unlike builders shovels..I tried a old computer matt and worked a bit but too big to get my hand round..

dont wearr. Tight gloves etc as always getting draughts up me sleves...but try not to grip bars hard...I do have low bloodpressure and get cold hands easily so probably something in that..i'm all healthy according to the doc..on long term medication..Migraines

sure it is try stuff and see what works for me...keep the suggestions coming as I'm sure we are all senior ..

I have just fitted some 'grip puppies' which are comfy and make the diameter 6mm bigger, only rode once so far with them but feel great so far.

(i didnt buy them for vibration problems though)

Bar end weights need to be heavy (Steel not alloy) & rubber mounted.
Have a look @ Versys 650 bar end weights, feel how flexible they are.
Believe me a Zillion dollar company like Kawasaki with serious R&D don't waste money on rubber mounted steel weights cause they look pretty.

This is how I've fitted handguards so as not to destroy the vibration damping effect of the weights on my bike.

I'm surprised your V twin has vibes they're suposed to be almost in perfect balance.

I used to use cheap foam grips & not grip too hard when I suffered from that problem.

Filling the bars with goo won't really help it would need to be loose lead shot to do any good & thats not where you'r going to want to go.

You could change Gearbox / Rear sprocket to move vibes out of cruising speed.
Trouble is this might spoil your low off road gear ratios.

Looks like you might have to get greedy & become a road rider with 3 or 4 cylinders.

Just remember when they start tingling your blood has become a Strawberry Smoothie.

Tingling in the hands and fingers often emanate from the upper spine, if you have had any neck or shoulder pain you may need trip to your gp

Relax grip on bars.
you also may be to tense in the upper body/ shoulders relax a bit more.
Try different riding positions for a short period as this could help determin if you bike is correctly set up for your size as bar height could be causing you to tense up in the elbows/shoulders
Also double check all engine and frame mounts are correctly tightened as this again can cause vibration.
