Ordour Sur Glane the lost village in France

Post by kas89 »

Stopped off here on my way back from Majorca on the XT1200 back in August.
Very humbling experience. To think that the Nazi's could wipe out a whole village in a day.
Read the story very interesting.
Nazi attack upon the martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane in the Haute-Vienne Department of Vichy France, on Saturday the 10th of June 1944 during WWII. This atrocity was carried out by soldiers of the Der Führer Regiment of the 2nd Waffen-SS Panzer Division, Das Reich. On that day they killed a total of 642 men, women and children and destroyed the village without giving any reason for their action to the inhabitants and to this day there is no universally accepted explanation for the massacre.

Went there in '85. Have also been to Aushwitz. Both show how the human race can be inhuman.

Wife and I visited in June this year, we were both left stunned by what Man can do to fellow Man.

I took my wife there a couple of months ago. On the way there she asked how long it would be until we (as a human race) stopped remembering things like the war, after seeing this, she said that we must never forget things like this. The moment you forget is the time it happens again.

Thanks for posting

Went there this year, well worth a visit, probably best to set aside 3 hours or so if you want to do the interior displays, audio tour and the actual village. It's just impossible to stand inside the church and imagine the horrors that were carried out.

I have been to Oradour sur Glane and although vey touching remember it was during wartime, Atrocities are being committed in Africa in what is the 21st century, take a look at the link below, I have seen the full programme and saw the Albino girl that was held down whilst her arm was hacked off so the bone could be ground down and used in witch doctor medicine, then I see 'WaterAid' begging for money on TV for Africa

You know this is so true - people think it was all in the past but it isn't. It's right now. Gaza for one.
