I know, its been asked a thousand times but as my TomTom Rider decided to eject itself on the A17 returning from the Peaks the other night and my Road angel getting on a bit I've got to sort out a new one :(

These are my requirements

Western Europe in a normal satnav mode
Software to plot routes and save tracks on a MAC whether it be on tarmac or dirt
Use a system like Memory map for off roading with inexpensive maps
Bluetooth to send directions to scala headset

Recommendations please

hi ..the only top of the range garmin that does tracks and has a large screen is the montana..but it dosent support blue tooth..

http://www.adventurebikerider.com/forum ... es-it.html

the zumo range supports bluetooth but does not support tracks..

the real reason is Garmin have two very similar models aimed at two different markets..why they dont do one that does both is beyon me..

I use the new etrex 20 with garmin discovery uk topo for trails nad a old nuvi550 for europe etc [on road]..

garmins plotting software is Basecamp and is very good especially with there topo maps loaded..

My Zumo 220 does support tracks in that I can download where I have been into Mapsource and get stats about the trip. Can also convert tracks into gdb, though its a bit time-consuming.
I think its a terrific bit of kit, especially as I got it for £200 when Curries were offloading their stock.

Old garmin format ..gpx is now used..kml is google earth file format..didnt know the 220 did tracks as well as routes..its baseed on the old nuvi 550 which is excellent never failed me in 4 years and had a few drownings too..also supports topo maps...

for trails I do a gpx track on various sites or use the discovery topo on basecamp the follow the line..onlym routes has turn by turn speach directions...still the same as old 60csx etc but they dont support new topo stuff..

This is the only one that seems to do everything but the cost is out of my league

So you are saying I can load some form of OS style map into the 220 with a route I have preloaded via my mac into it then follow that route on the trails? Would it track where I have been as well?

no it wont..it dosent do TRACKS but just ROUTES..as per garmins web site ..

BUT as I`m sure you know GB the only uk companies to support o/s maps are memory map and now Garmin discovery uk..down to 1:25k so all the trails etc..

I`ve use the nuvi550 [basically a zumo 220 ] and have done custom routes for the trails and loaded it as a route BUT run satnav in offroad mode..the garmin software calculates the route differently in automative and offroad modes..

with routes you are restricted to 500 waypoints but tracks can do 20000..I use routes for road touring and tracks for the trails..uk and europe..

the zumo for the money is good but it aint a garmin montana which is excellent apart from no bluetooth-never used it myself...the voices in my head talk to me

you need tracks facility to also "track" your ride to share or review at home..

I`m not being pig headed... ;) my suggestions try a few out I`m sure some members on here live near you..

try these in a zumo and see what happens..

Slightly confused tramp, I had a look on the Garmin website and checked what maps are compatible with the 220 and it came up with this https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1359&pvID=2646 will that not do what I want, bearing in mind I dont want bluetooth instructions when off road, just routes and tracks.
