The train may only take 1/2 hour, but every time I've been through this year passport control and customs has taken 90 minutes or more.

It took a crowd of bikes 90 minutes on Tuesday night only because 20 bikes filtered between the cones from the queue for the overflow holding area and went straight into the queue for passport control. Officials waved their arms in protest but 20 bikes chose to ignore them so they gave up and let it slide. Had those bikes gone to the holding area first it would've been more like 2 1/2 hours.

It's no longer any quicker than the ferry.

hi ralph we just cut straight across the chappy controlling the queue with a big wave and go straight to the train even when we are early, jan just waves the ticket around and we get in the lane thats moving, bit of a cheek but there not going to turn you around into oncoming traffic

That works when there's room on the train but how do you explain to other bike owners that their spot on the train has been taken by someone who couldn't be bothered to wait for their allocated train?

We were bumped a couple of years ago in similar circumstances and got put on a train 2 hours later then given a full refund after complaining. I've sat on the platform and watched cars with the letter after mine board then had the loading team say they may not be able to get us on which brought a few sarcastic comments from both my wife and I but that time they managed to squeeze all the bikes on by having the owners hold them all upright then put them on the side stands at the same time just to make an extra couple of feet :pinch:

It's never going to happen, Rob. There is no Government of this country that will allow 7,000 to 10,000 migrants to be camped in Kent whilst they are processed, whether that's a legal or an illegal camp. There would be 'outrage' in middle England. And rightly so. I like France, but he is talking bollox and just wants to shift the problem from French shores to the UK shores. And it's probably just a vote winner for him with the French public rather than a properly thought through idea.

just got back from france on the way out did my usual and you could have parked an entire show room in the train, in fact we had it to ourselves, riders where turning up on time and queuing not filtering and will have missed there slot, i wont sit in the line if i have to. cages complain when we make headway because we can, but i dont complain in the wet and cold when they are nice and warm

also to add, bikes have always loaded last, last 20 or so times i have been asked to wait on the platform irrespective of time slot, thats both ways.

apparently the UK is funding a new 4m high concrete wall 1k both sides of the port approach road.

Mr Trump wants a bigger wall for the Mexicans.

Emperor Hadrian did a good stone one for the Picts.

China used sticky rice to strengthen their great wall against the Mongols.

Offa tried to keep us wild wooly Welsh out with an earthen dyke.

Israel has a huge concrete one to take the Palestinian lands.

.. can you think of anymore that did not and will not work, eventually ?

Are these people stupid? Do they really think when they do this, the ferry is actually going to leave port with them on it?

I'm sure I heard the mayor of Calais say that they (French police) are not allowed to arrest them .. they just stop them from proceeding and dump them off at another point.

it doesn't take long for the migrants to see that in effect they have diplomatic immunity.

could not get it to play, but i think i know where your coming from, to get through the check in you need a passport, then you are channelled down to a choke point ether the loading ramp or gangplank how hard can it be to stop someone getting onto a ferry, one or two maybe but to the entire camp,or get super tough, i personally don't think the french try to hard, enough to show they are doing their best for the worlds press
