I have a headache from my latest conversation with them and really can't be bothered to post the update right now.

Jeez my last 20 mins on the phone was harder than my actual days work today.

I need to lie down....

Just in case anyone hasn't visited the Bennets website yet

http://www.bennetts.co.uk/bike-insuranc ... on-policy/

and here are their helpful examples - Note, Panniers / Top boxes are mods.

EXAMPLES

Appearance of your bike including stickers

If you have made you bike look like a race replica via the use of decals/stickers or paintwork then you must make us aware, other than that you do not need to tell us.

I’ve fitted an Akrapovic exhaust system, should I disclose this?

Yes, this is considered a performance enhancing feature and should be disclosed.

I’m considering investing in a Smartwater or Datatag system, is this considered as a modification?

No, these examples would be categorised as security features and not classed as a modification. Again, please be as accurate as possible when disclosing security devices too as they can often reduce your premium.

How about panniers, surely they’re not classed as performance enhancing?!

Panniers (or luggage) do affect the performance of a bike, or to be more accurate, its stability plus its size. To reiterate, it’s important to state as much detail about your bike and its modifications and accessories as possible. They may not affect the price of your policy.

We are committed to ensuring you are fully covered and make the most of your biking lifestyle.

When I spoke to Bennetts between 18:00/18:30hrs this evening to ask why I hadn't received the promised call today to inform me of the outcome of their comms with Equity Star, (underwriters) their employee told me they had not received any feedback yet. This, despite the posts here referring to Facebook comments and despite their own website having updates!

I asked where I stand re my cover with my existing mods and was told they will get back to me as soon as they receive feedback.
I asked how am I to get to work if you can't guarantee me cover? I was met with a long pause. The guy kept repeating that they would get back to me as soon as , etc.

He said he would again log my issues re the mods on my bike but I would have to wait for further updates.
I said this isn't just about my mods, it's about the whole 3 max mods policy idea that applies to everyone, not just me. I don't want personal updates, I need to know what Bennetts are doing re aboloshing the 3 mods rule altogether?

I mentioned about both FB and Bennetts website updates and he was unaware of any news. This is a Bennetts employee that has no idea what is taking place re their T&Cs or updates.
I am at a total loss that a business of this size uses such an unprofessional method as to use FB as a way of updating customers (I don't use FB, I'm sure I'm not alone) and that they don't inform their own staff as to what is happening within their business and yet news of updates can somehow reach the public domain in what is nothing short of second hand news.

I got so fed up with this nonsense that I felt it necessary to cancel my policy.

I was then informed that I would have to pay a £30.00 cancellation fee as well as a percentage of my premium for early cancellation.

I disputed this and before I could finish I was then told that only the cancellation fee would apply.

Again I disputed this and said I don't see why I should be penalised in any way as this is a breach of policy by Bennetts on the basis that nowhere in their T&C's, or the policy docs, does it state anything regarding a max 3 mods policy.

Finally I was told my policy will be cancelled and there will be nothing to pay.

Never again will I entertain Bennetts insurance.

I'm with Carole Nash myself, been with them ever since Bennetts told me there was no such thing as a multi-bike policy about 8 years ago.

Off to the NEC on Wednesday, so I might indulge in a bit of Bennett baiting there

I'm no mechanic/expert of any kind , i just hop on my little honda and go places, i'm not a full lience holder either so can only ride upto a 125 and i must therefore display L plates... are they classed as stickers? I also had problems with my regulator which has been replaced with one from a honda goldwing, is that a modification that renders me uninsured? i also fitted a topbox, again am i uninsured? I pay £167 per year, every year the price goes up, i thought as you got older and more experienced policies were supposed to go down a bit? well i have now found that swinton will insure me AND any mods made for £60.88 per year... guess what i'm gonna do. Bennetts has put the black cap over the wig and decalred the sentence of death upon itself.. crazy business plan!

What about magnetic tank bags if they reckon panniers affect stability?? Do Bennetts want informed each time you use one - and then if you decide not to use it do they still want informed?

They might harp on about the underwriters deciding this new stupid policy but they've been in the business long enough to know what mods really affect bike safety/performance/desirability to thieves.

PS - I would never use them after they took my premium twice and said it was my fault, took 2 months of arguing to get re-imbursed.

I figure now that even if they had the lowest prices, they will go under very soon....
Can't see anyone now taking the chance of throwing their money away.....

I'm a newbie about to take my CBT. After being directed to read this thread, I now have a black horizontal line on my list of potential insurance companies in the region of a name beginning with "B" and ending in "ennetes" ;)
