Hi all :cheer:, that's me at the top of this page  The Derbi Terra is no doubt one of the most powerful 125cc bikes I've ever ridden. I've ridden a Honda XR125, Yamaha WR125 and a Honda Varadero 125 and the Terra is the most fun for me. :woohoo:

It'll easily do 70mph+ quite comfortably, which is quite good for a little bike don't you think? It pulls away really quickly - A little bit of reassurance to accelerate out of danger  , it has an on-board computer with a rev counter and handles really well especially during slow speed maneuverability.

The only down side is the under-seat storage, I can only fit a disc lock, That's pretty much it! :( but the bike comes with a top box rack. So not much of a problem for me

I tend to think my bike is a sporter or should I say "funnier" alternative to the Honda Varadero. I would definately recommend it to anyone who is new to the road who just wants to have some fun. ;)

Hi Andy, make sure Dad keeps his hands off, especially don't let him look at pics like this...

Or he'll be wanting to do the green lanes on it.

Sadly Morocco is a full bike licence job, but if I'm right Spain is do-able on a CBT and full car licence. I know it used to be but need to check what if any impact the European Third Licence Directive has had.

Hmm there's almost enough of us to organise a rally. Anyone interested? Where are we all?

Oh and there's definitely enough of us that Alun should do a bike test. Alun!

Chaps,
I posted a note a little while ago about making a proper rack and pannier carriers; having now sorteed out all of the fixing issues including the use of the pilion foot rest fixings, I am seeking an idea of how many to get made as this affects the cost.

The design is based on the removal of the existing composite rack and replace this with a tubular one (this can be used on it's own) the panier racks would be supported from the new rack and steadied from the pillion footrest mounts. In addition there will be an anti sway bar at the rear. Suggesting mld steel powdercoated satin black but could get other coulours if there is sufficient demand. I have attached an initial sketch of the proposed rack and you will see that I have not tapered the rear of the rack to give better support/mounting for top case/baggage.

With regards some of the other issues raised, I have thought of the following:
Soft forks - As these fork are not adjustable and it is unlikley that the springs have sagged; I would suggest the addition of some aluminum spacer placed above the prings and under the top caps, suggest that these are done in 12 and 25 mm intervals until the correct stifness is achieved (baring in mind that there will be a limit before the springs reach there limit). The correct oil wirght is important but this affects the rebound more that compression so if you have increased the sring load significantly it would be worth increasing the weight (viscosity) of the fork oil but don't go mad as a little increas makes a big difference and in winter they will be siffer than summer.
Low Bottom End Power - I am afrade that with any engine that has a lager bore than stroke, it is almost a forgone conclustion that it is going to be low on bottom end power but should rev freely. I have found that mine is Ok at low revs but when running above 7K is is a different bike. This is no problem on road but when off road you will need to use the clutch alot (good that it's an oil bath clutch and should be able to take some abuse).
Fuel Sender Light Flashing - I have looked at mine as it flashed but it would appear to be a very basic system and when the float bounces a little in the tank it does not have the sophistication to ignor intermitant signals. I have found that the flashing is a good waring and refuel when comes on permanently and this is pretty close to the 8.5l it should be.

Aye, and somewhere on this very forum is the evidence to prove it.

Tim, that looks good, I had to try and visualise it for a while, and can't quite work out what the parts are made of that directly attach to the bike, are they tubes or flat bar? Also are you aiming for symmetrical pannier racks? If so it'd be great to mount a tool tube on the inside of the non-exhaust side so it'd need mounting points.

The rack would have the main frame in 20mm tube so that it can be used as a pillion grab rail. This would be attached at the front usong steel brackets very much like the front fixings of the existing rack. The rear mounting of the rackk would be a 20x20 rectangular hollow section which would be welded to the rack tubes and use the rear monts to fix to. The flat bar would be used for the base of the rack base and the links between the rack and the pannier support hoops. The hoops would be symetrical and it would be possible to add a tool tube on the left hand side. The stays would use the two open ends of the pillion footrst frames and the rear brace would be a simple tube linking eack of the hoops. To keep the cost realistic I have based the design on the use of mild. Steel as this is cheaper easy to weld but heavier.
Hope this helps and hope we can get enough interest to make it worth wile making a few.
