mmmm ive never ever got 200 miles to a tank ...with the powercommader ive managed to get it down to 160 ...and if i really try 150....which is pretty dam terrible...but it goes like billeo ..so dont really care
me average was 185 to the light without the power up and now its around 160..me problem is i ride in places where a steady throttle for long periods is rare .. i do seem to be at the bottom of the pile when it comes to gas milage ...id be kind if i said i was averaging 50mpg at the moment ..that pull from the full power pack is somwhat addictive

Not having the pleasure of kids, I don't have to tell em I've just spent their inheritance, my bike is now being built
Without the cush drive it is a bit unpleasant through the pegs at low speed but that clears it up & for me it goes plenty fast enough, 60 certainly didn't take long & that was without the full PC version. We're all built different but after 400 miles of the CRF saddle, it felt like an armchair for my poor sore, even though I'm only 5.8" the high saddle fit better & I could still pretty much get my feet down.
I can see why some people don't like it, it trundles at low speeds & compared to the CRF which is almost impossible to, is easy to stall. The gear lever isn't instinctive to find & yep the changes are a bit clunky. Suicide stand is annoying (easy fix) but for me the positives far outweigh the negatives. A few miles in the saddle & I will have the hang of all the above.
I'm really looking forward to taking it around Scotland for a couple of thousand miles; it's light, nimble as feck, comfy standing or sitting, the front fairing / screen keep the wind, rain off & although a bit shallow.....it looks sublime (thumbs)
Yes I could have bought an Africa Twin with all the add ons I'm getting, but the weight saving to me is worth it. As far as I'm concerned if you need to hit 100+ mph, it's the wrong route.
I'm even having SM wheels! If you want to wallow in mud you should become a pig  I will stick to the tarmac, hard pack / gravel trails and occasional grassy camping field full of GS's.

Pauli save yourself £5k and buy the Honda Rally 250 then spend your saving on a far better road bike, it will offer you options with less hassle and loss of residual value :pinch:

Sarge,
I'm aware you've had issues with your bike and you've had your GP450 longer than I've had mine.
I'm also being a bit lazy in not reading back through this thread to find out the full extent of your problems.
But I seem to recall most of your issues are connected with the low throttle fuelling.
I think all these bikes have the same "problem" mine certainly does.
But I can live with it, to me it's a minor irritation, soon forgotten when what I consider to be a cracking engine comes on song.
We all know the mapping is cobbled together to get the engine through the emission regs. I've opted for the CCM power commander and exhaust......another £1000! I want the bike to be the best it can be.
It's not a cheap bike, but it's different and hand built.
As a CCM customer you get a pretty unique purchasing experience, it's not often you can deal directly with the manufacturer.
If you offered me 5K and a CRF250 Rally for my GP450S I wouldn't be interested.
The CCM uncorked makes twice the power, has way better suspension, it's lighter and it's not a Honda.

its a strange thing motorbikes can be all things to all people ..one mans slow is another mans fast
the ccm is more of a raw expieriance it feels impatiant in traffic and wants to be let go but even the biggest doubters would be geninly surprised on how fast a uncorked ccm really is ..its a pretty exciting ride ..it is more demanding on and off road but it rewards the rider with a all round buzz
the rally is slow .its not exciting .its all a bit starbucks with its enclosed flimsy belly pan ..but under there it has a different way of doing things ..its super smooth you can pop it into 5th at 30mph and for a commuter bike /town its far better than a ccm .it super begginer freindly and it will take you over most average trails without a lot of fuss ..as a back roads explorer for the gentleman not in a hurry its very good ..unashamed soft roader that is a very good comuter bike ..it totally undemanding and easy and flexable and for a guy that spends somtimes 8 hours a day at speeds under the nationl limit and in trafficed areas its its actually a extremly pleasent bike to ride
head to head id guess the ccm will go to 60 and back to a standstill while the rally is still tring to get there ...chalk and cheese in performance
but riding in town and bobbing along in a lazy way the rally is a easy ride
how do you like your eggs?

I think the CCM is a good bike but with a bit more attention it could have been a truly great bike. The fuelling is the biggest issue, even when mine is running right it has an annoying surging just at the point in the rev range when I would want to be riding at if trickling through traffic or bimbling along a green lane. It seems excessive to have to pay £430 to sort out this problem.
For me as a fairly inexperienced off road rider it is probably the only adventure bike I could take off road. The light weight and the handling are helping to build my confidence. On the Easy Peak ride out on Monday I still struggled to keep up with the pace of more experienced riders.
To be honest I bought one as a fiftieth birthday present to myself as I wanted a new bike and there is nothing else out there that appealed. It is the first new bike I have owned since my MZ50. I suspect it will be the last. The hassles I have had and the cost of running a new bike compared to the 'classic' Guzzis and Brits I own have put me off. Anything newer will have even more complex (expensive)bits to go wrong and maintain. One of the reasons I bought mine was to do stuff like the Taffy Dakar on as it is a long way to Wales and back in a weekend on a small trail bike. I think I will see how I get on this year but I may well be tempted to flog it and get another TTR 250 and another cheap hack for thrashing to and from work.
Cheers Jak

I think between my wife and I, we have spent more on upgrades for our two CCMs that all the after-market accessories I've bought for any of my previous bikes combined!
Why do we do this? Well, we absolutely love the bikes and get a real thrill even taking them out for an hour. With the performance packs they go like a two-stroke and always put smiles on our faces.
However, I'm not blind to the fact that ours are effectively 'toys' rather than high-mileage commuter bikes and our riding comprises 2-3 hour ride-outs with the odd longer tour (UK/Europe maybe once a year). Having both intended to do a bit of off-roading, this need has diminished a bit mainly because my wife has injured herself one too many times but they make excellent road bikes especially here in Sussex where the conditions/potholes are almost as bad as Surrey.
I know many bikers who wouldn't buy them for various reasons and they are right to take that decision. For example; "It's only a 450", "It vibrates a lot", "It's expensive", "I want a sports bike to go fast on" etc. It's never going to suit everyone but it is a shame when potential owners are put off before even test-riding.
Yep, there are some valid points raised about the design or maintenance but the bits that matter are top drawer and the customer service has been very good in my experience, noting there have been one or two stating to the contrary.
Whatever the downsides, you can't escape the delightful lack of weight. Every time I roll mine out of the garage I giggle because it feels like I'm pushing a mountain bike...but I also like Moto Guzzis and Buells so my bike preferences are a bit 'left field' anyway

Steve,
I am really happy the you are satisfied with your CCM and anybody else for that matter that regards them as great value, I don't and without hesitation would take the the new Rally 250 and have £5k change, my opinion has not wavered from 1st day of ownership, to me they are overrated and overpriced, but that's my opinion and it's ok to disagree (thumbs)
