One of the guys riding with me had a 525 KTM of similar vintage to the one I sold last year.
He was interested in the X-Trainer, so we swapped bikes briefly. I was glad to swap back, especially as the next lane was really tough and the KTM got very hot and bothered.
My conclusion with the KTM is that it's not very happy just running along...it wants to be either accelerating or decelerating hard. A powerful engine and engine braking.
The X-Trainer is a complete opposite. It's perfectly happy to cruise along, and it needs to be asked before it unleashes what power it has.
On steep inclines and slippery grass it seems happier in 2nd than 1st.
I think its what you're used to, Ive got a KTM 450 and have had similar bikes for many years, the KTM is happy to cruise at 60 mph returns 60 mpg and deals with technical stuff as well as it possibly could with someone of my limited talent and its great to play the hooligan on when no ones watching, I covered 16,000 miles on my 2015 450 with no breakdowns or expense other than service items, Ive ridden your Beta when it was in Mikes ownership and frankly I was less than impressed, like I said its just what you're used to and how each bikes talents line up against your expectations.
I'd love a big KTM thumper for wide-open spaces...but here the lanes are like trials sections...some actually are LDT sections, and some are even harder!
Looks like it to me...I've seen it defeat all sorts of riders, including some non-competitor KTM 'enduro god' riders (with all the stickers to prove their status) who tried it on an Exeter Trial day, much to the spectators' amusement.
There were some red faces by the time the last of them had got to the top.
