Re: Mates are supposed to be mates, right?
20 years ago almost to the day, my wife left me. (I'd almost got over it until I started reading this 'Taking without Consent' thread) She took my best mate, my house, my car and all my money. But I looked on the bright side, I kept the bike. Traded her in many times over the years, and now I've got a real beaut.
Saw my ex best mate a few weeks back, ( he's still with my ex ) the bloke's put on a lot of weight, lost all his hair, and I've never seen a more miserable looking fella. That could have been me.
Look on this as a blessing in disguise, and go buy yourself a new bike.

Re: Mates are supposed to be mates, right?
I don't know whether to laugh or cry, with this thread :S
I came across this in college ... SWOT analysis
make a list of your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.
SW
OT
look at your Weaknesses ...... and turn them into Strengths
look at your Threats ......... and turn them into opportunities.
Easy ... right ?
yeah yeah yeah ... good theory but life is not like that?
but (then again) ... life is what you make it?
I can see now that I never really understood this swot thing, .. held on to old ways that were proved not to work, let life control me not me control life, say `that's the way it is`, feel hard done by, billy no-mates ... o, cruel world .. sob (well you know wot I mean
)
then recently i experienced an example .. of letting go of the old negative ways, of no longer holding onto crap stuff, .. of letting positive influences onto the scene, and so attractive more positive things happening, because yoo is on a positive roll.
anyway .. this is what happened ..
I had a big van that i really loved, but it was crippling me financially to run. I was holding onto something negative that was destroying the rest of my life.
then one day i (ahem) reversed into another car causing fair damage i could not afford.
(this was the catalyst that set things rolling)
(it was a THREAT that could destroy my way of life, as i could not afford the costs or the cost of a replacement vehicle, being on a state pension)
I then took my beloved van to be MOTed, ..... and it FAILED so badly (rust chasis) it had to be scrapped.
(now Double Shit)
but this started to move me into a more sensible position
even tho i had not a penny to me name.
without even realising it i was now on the path of turning threats to opportunities, as i had (invuluntarily) let go of the past that was proved not to work.
so ... not point in keeping the nice bike trailer any more.
advertised and sold in two days .. £250 quid ... mmmm not much use tho?
I now had to catch the bus (oap bus pass B) ) and while waiting at the bus stop one cold dark wet evening, someone came up to me and said `oh, been looking for you since you moved .. i got some money for you) ... how often does that happen? :woohoo:
another £300 quid
ok ok I can handle this.
then in contact with the MOT prepper that had given me £20 [yes 20] for my van ... he said he had a lush CAT C fiesta going for £800 quid
like ... yey ... ? or wot ?
catching the bus for a month let me save up the rest of the dosh .... and I am now in love with my ickle smooth warm economical fiesta (55mpg, double that of the van)
how did all this happen? i still keep asking myself?
well ... perhaps it was because i finally let go
of stuff that was not working
and allowed new opportunities to enter my life
so
..
to OP
just think of your ex as a clapped out rusty old van that could not really afford anyway, and get onto a new wavelength of opportunity and onto what is really suited to you!

and what better place than to get a real fix to the mans problems.skipper wrote:Are you serious? This is a f..king Adventure bike forum! Get a grip man.
An opportunity for an extended motorcycle adventure, which is what brought me out of the doldrums after my break up. life has been on the up since.[/quote]
We clearly need a new topic on this forum, entitled 'My Wife/GF left me'. At the time of writing, this topic is currently the third most viewed on the first page. I guessing a lot on here either like reading a bit of gossip, or hearing of others misfortunes.
If such a topic became popular it could benefit both young and old subscribers. The old could read about those whose divorces and break ups were far worse than their own, and therefore making them feel better about how lightly they got off. The young could learn from our mistakes, and therefore perhaps think twice before making some serious big commitments.
I do however believe that at least one motorcycle, or motorcycle trip needs to be included in your thread or reply.

After all when when you've had a particular motorcycle for a period of time, and no longer enjoy riding it, you sell or swop it for a more desirable model. So why not add a sub section for wife's, girlfriends, & partners?
Btw, I hope it isn't the OP's ex who's written into today's Mirror "dear Colleen" page .........
Recently while sat in the pub, a guy I know said to me "at your age you should be married & have loads of kids, Then you can be as miserable as me"

It just means most people have more trouble with their Mrs than they do their bike that's all. It also means more people on here have a Mrs and a hope in hell of doing a JOG to Lands End mate that's all (thumbs)anthony29040 wrote:its funny that but when someone puts up a post bike related like J.O.G to landsend in a weekend it barely gets one page.not sure what this means about this forum :pinch:cocker wrote:fck me is this bollocks still top post with 2300 views
I've always thought there should be a Thread called 'I fancy a trip to X on my bike - how to get that past the Mrs'

I'm reading this as I lay in a hospital bed recovering from Minor facial surgery and without sounding too unsympathetic I just would like to say - Thanks for the laughs (thumbs)
The nurses think I'm nuts and you're hurting my stitches but it's just what I needed.
