The Best Place For a Biker To Live In Britain?

30 minutes to the Scottish Border
45 Minutes to cumbria and Lake district
45 minutes to North Yorkshire
150 miles to the Belfast ferry
20 miles Amsterdam Ferry.

The thread is not about the biking roads where you live. The whole country has got roads. Places with fantastic roads and fantastic mud tracks are two a penny but they also have their fair share of dreadful roads, too... Even Yorkshire.

The OP was about living, as he viewed it, in the middle of England as being the perfect spot. The middle gave him access to everything; which I assume means that he'd ruled out living in Wales, Scotland, Cornwall or even Wiltshire (as they are not the middle of anything) though he did cast covetous eyes on the south east, not surprisingly. :laugh:

He mentioned nothing about the roads bring great, just that is was a great county for bikes.
The question is 'the best place for a biker to live in Britain?'. That's his opinion and you're trying to correct him???

But have you noticed,they are reducing the speed limits on some roads,that used to display the national speed limit!

I would say Ayrshire, or indeed anywhere anywhere on the West of Scotland.

The only issue is the number of visiting bikers, now before someone goes off on one, you are all welcome, what I mean is all the roads where these bikers have come from must be quieter due to the vast numbers heading up over the border, so the best place to live must therefore be somewhere else. Weird Logic!

I met a couple from Doncaster on the Bute Ferry on Saturday, all that way to do one island that you can't even ride all the way round.

Ayrshire is full of little moor / wilderness roads, has access to Argyle (go on the Western ferry to Dunoon then West / North) Glen Coe etc. an hour or so away. Ferry to Ireland. Lots of Islands to play on.

Only downsides are lack of road maintenance, distance to southern border and midgies. We don't mention the rain, but bring two sets of waterproofs.

Actually, I don't think you're far off the mark there - I'd still choose Yorkshire, but a bit further north, maybe somewhere around Richmond, so I'd still have access to civilisation, but with great roads and beautiful contryside in all directions (well, apart from Teeside ). Sedburgh would be another option - it's still in the West Riding of Yorkshire as far as I'm concerned.

My rule is never head south of the M62 except for business, a ferry to Spain or an airshow at Duxford (thumbs)

I think it's fair to say that these days I don't go north of the M62 unless I'm being paid (thumbs)
