Mozzie spray, and if the good lady comes along make sure she has a pillow, I found this out the hard way, apparently a rolled up jacket is not the same. :pinch:

Most of the camping comments make sensd, i work by the rule any fool can be uncomftable.
Also once returned from a camping tour with bike gear tent & pillion, i went over what kit we used, kit we didnt and whic kit was usless.
Then decided if to take next time as a just in case or not bother.
I do agree when buying fart sack liner & tent cooking items & cooker buy the best you can afford.
As for cookers i suggest multi fuel cookers you will not run out of petrol then.
Again cookers some shops have some demo 'used' cookers so you can have a go at lighting it, ior look at a mates cooker let them show you how easy to light then try it yourself.
If none kf your freinds then go home and practice lighting it & dear i sat pack everything and go for a ride see how it feels wait wise and if anything needs adjusting so when gou go for real you have a good idea oc where items go, i always pack the same way all the time save getting 95% of the packed gear off the bike to only find it is in the tank bag!

Maybe it's been mentioned before, but having a head-torch (e.g. Petzl) makes life a whole lot easier.
For cooking / boiling water, a non-stick mess tin. Cook and eat out of the same thing.

use boil in the bag, pouched or tinned food.
these can be heated in water without contaminating it. this stuff is also usually precooked so you save a lot of fuel heating rather than cooking.
eg heat a pouch of "look what i found" food in a pan of 1pt water, by the time the water is boiling the food in the pouch is hot enough. use some of the water for a hot drink, then use some for instant noodles. there should be enough left for another drink or washing up.
cous cous uses very little water, and usually steams off the heat saving even more fuel.
if you have an open fire these dough twists are tasty and fun to make;
500g SR flour
4/5 tsp sugar
a little salt
300/500ml water
combine the ingredients and mix with water a little at a time till you get a smooth dough.
if you like add some sultanas, cinnamon powder etc
make snakes about the thickness of your thumb and wrap them round a stick
hold over the EMBERS of the fire till cooked, you'll know when done because it should slide off the stick easily. bit of jam nicked from the cafe you stopped at that day goes nicely with them.
chocolate oranges-
cut an orange in half round the middle, take out any pips, put 3 after eights in the middle and wrap the orange in foil.
place in the embers for 10/15 mins turning often. dont burn your lips
