It took about three days for anyone to ask "What happened to the deer, dear?" Callous lot that we are :whistle:

But having seen quite a few crash through the forest over the years, from my bike but mainly put hiking, I can reassure everyone that IMHO I reckon it went off unscathed!

Interestingly both Gaspar and the hotel manager where Paul was put up were both on the case straight away, asking, "Did you eat it?" (thumbs)

They are a real menage to traffic - hence the hundreds of warning signs on the roads - and to the forest as they eat the new shoots of the trees, thus threatening regeneration.

Since the demise of wolves in Spain - extinct in Aragon for decades now although there are lots in the north and west - there is no natural predator (apart from hapless motorists!) and according to the hotel they even 'migrate' across regional boundaries in tune with their varying open seasons for hunting!

Hopefully bambi went in someones pot, but it may have had a broken leg as it wasn't wearing any protective gear. I seem to be lacking a bit of sympathy........

Just got back from the hospital for a checkup and it is healing nicely, just hope there is not too much ligament damage.

Not too sure about fewer deer but more wolves, but lots of venison pie, steak sound good to me.

Johnah, the lad just behind Paul, said that it must have been a moose as it were about 5 foot tall to the shoulders, it had body armour like a medieval horse and had combat camouflage to aid its stealth attack on the first unsuspecting rider. Only good bit was it wernt me !!. I have just loaded to the Santander ferry back with a few beers down me neck and cant wait for the next Hiss in Catalonia - Also for more info - them deer whistles work well but it knocked Pauls off so he cant call any more out of the bushes. I would also like to congratulate Johnah for not only being a top bloke and a great first timer to trailing, but for a winner for Iron-butt-man of the year for a none stop from Calais to Algarbe on a loaded 650. Markoh needs a mention for his "bottle" = Trailing with the sidecar. His appetite needs another mention and I would hate be adrift with him in a lifeboat, I wouldnt dare to sleep !!!

I suspect I come form a similar viewpoint on "game" as those other two august gentlemen. Questions on whether venison is "in season" fade into insignificance when you are presented with 120lbs of meat and no fridge to hand. Waste not, want not...
