I don't think it is a question of choosing something to replace sovereignty, I think it is an outdated concept largely replaced by globalization. Whether I or anyone else like it is largely irrelevant. I have a lot of sympathy with solidarity or global socialism but I think human nature, particularly greed means that these are unrealistic at least in my lifetime.

As far as I understand it, Sovereignty is the right to govern a country under the laws of that land. What's wrong with that? And Globalization is the integration of economies and culture. There seems to be everything wrong in that. Taking it to the extreme, how on earth can it be a good idea to integrate, say, the culture of Saudia Arabia with Britain or the economy of Romania with Britain? Both seem bonkers ideas, to me :blink: .

it's not so much whether it's a good idea or bad idea for intragration but HOW do you do it ? that's what we forgot in Iraq, Afgan and more recently in Libya, cultures are different and should be respected so. But I always say to go to a country YOU RESPECT THEIR RULES AND REGULATIONS..... why go and live somewhere and try and turn it into a little bit of the country you left ?

Given our history with other nations and cultures, we can't say don't come to the UK and try to change our country.

As Red said, when in other people's countries, respect their values, laws and traditions.
So if you want to come to the UK, you should be prepared to live under the pre-existing culture.

As Red said, when in other people's countries, respect their values, laws and traditions.
So if you want to come to the UK, you should be prepared to live under the pre-existing culture.

Is it not the pre existing culture and the benefits thereof that you are travelling to that country for.

I am first generation Irish/English not accepted as an Irishman by the Irish community although they more than welcome me and not accepted by the English as an English man because of my surname, so I grew up in a limbo and I understand what the first generation Asian kids are going through and can to a certain extent understand their struggle, I don't condone it in anyway shape or form but to be caught between two cultures is not nice.

Our Empire was a disgrace in my opinion, but then again so were/are so many more including a few modern ones that are trying to rule the world at present, instead of trying to dominate by force how about just agreeing to get on and trade with each other now theirs a novel idea, but that's not the fundamental human nature.

Now wouldn't it be nice if man could actually get on with each other instead of ripping each other apart, anyone fancy a ride around the Med and through the great cultures of Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and a few others (thumbs) of course we would go to these countries and respect their culture

why does everyone worry about putin? Russia shows no aggression. its actions in the ukraine and crimea are purly defensive in a region that has always been part of russia ,caused by the eu and usa playing poke the bear.in fact Kiev was the capital of russia during the 15th century. It seems to me that a great deal of money is to be made from war mongering and instability and you need to look to the west for the cause of much of it,too many profitable fingers influencing too many pies.

Any thoughts on Syria?
