Re: Capote deux
Actually retro-reflective is the strict wording on that site. So unless your clothing already has this built in as has been said standard "hi-viz" cycling armbands, motor cycle Sam Browne belts etc will do as to meet the current CE standard they should have retro-reflective material for night time use as well as the fluro colours for poor day light.Mike54 wrote:I thought I did that on page 1 B)
btw, it's reflective not hi vis, just to clear that up.
Also, the French equivalent of MAG is trying to have the (reflective bit of "stuff") law anulled (according to their website) but we'll have to see if that's successful.
The actual announcement is here
http://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affichTex ... rieLien=id
Now what I CANT see here is the bit which talks about the size of the reflective bit of "stuff" so right now I'm not sure where that's coming from. Perhaps someone else can shed some light from some knowledge of what's actually been announced?
The required total coverage is 150 cm2 as quoted here... http://www.mag-uk.org/en/newsdetail/a6935

Agree with your last bit there Selous, hoping to steer clear of depressing and sensationalist threads like this from now on, we have the BBC news for that! IMO this subject is a bit like hearing about the British economy, you get a bit sick of it after a while!Selous wrote: people berating each other is not helpfull & this forum has never been like that, it has always been in good form.
Re: Capote deux
many bike headlights dont need adjusting as they have a flat beam, my varadero and the v-strom being 2. im guessing if your light doesnt have the adjusting lens on the glass (the old fashioned wavy lines & triangle) and has a plain clear glass, its ok

Really!! I was lead to beleve that all UK bike headlights point slightly opposite to all the other EU countrys.davsato wrote:many bike headlights dont need adjusting as they have a flat beam, my varadero and the v-strom being 2. im guessing if your light doesnt have the adjusting lens on the glass (the old fashioned wavy lines & triangle) and has a plain clear glass, its ok

no not all do. Park up about 10 foot from a tall wall and see for yourself, many bikes have a totally flat light. The law says it cant kick up onto opposite drivers faces, not that it has to aim off. Mine doesnt kick up either side

Re: Capote deux
Apropos headlights, I had to change the headlight on my F800GS, bought in Italy, to a UK spec headlight in order to get the bike registered on a British plate -- which was either a rip off or suggests that there is a difference between the European and UK specs.
Re: Capote deux
I thought all headlights on uk or any other country that drives on the same side for vechicles the lihghts are off set slightly & the rest of the world point the other way, I was lead to belive that this is so headlights do not blind someone coming towards you at any distance. so they are just off set, that is why you have to put that bit of black tape on the light.
Although I do notice as I am on the Essex Suffolk Border, you see quite a few cars from EU without any black tape on the headlights.

I think you were ripped off! I have taken a Uk plated GS 800 into France and registered it without having to change the lights .Paul Neate wrote:Apropos headlights, I had to change the headlight on my F800GS, bought in Italy, to a UK spec headlight in order to get the bike registered on a British plate -- which was either a rip off or suggests that there is a difference between the European and UK specs.
