Is this going to be rolled out to every Ins Comp; It always takes one brave one to start the ball rolling. I am insured with them, and despite being a Bennetts Biker Dream winner,they did add 12 Bennetts stickers to my bike for marketing purposes before the trip. Does that mean I was not covered ????:pinch: , whilst doing 100's of hours promo work for them ?????
I guess if the whole industry is going to follow, the loss of business across the board will take effect. I would like to know how many insured riders are 'leisure' users and how many road hours are actually used, giving a £ per mile figure for insuring bikes compared to cars, vans, buses, trucks. The industry has changed in the UK since the increase in compo claims, and thefts has gone uncontrolled. I think Bennetts are brave, and the resulting loss of business will have a knock on effect to the INSURER, Don;t forget, they are only the middle men, YOUR insurance company are the one that give out the policy, and they are the ones to blame. Bennetts Facebook page is getting some real stick today, no holds barred.

This was the main question I asked Carol Nash and they said; My interpretation: It was unlikely that Carole Nash, for example, will not be introducing the “Bennetts” policy and that maybe they’re (Bennetts) doing this as to react to some accessory/modification claim…:unsure: :unsure: :unsure: hmy:

…we know and understand that Carole Nash are the middle men here, as too, Bennetts, but I got the impression with Carole Nash that it is they who are not implementing what Bennetts are doing…so far this is just one Insurance Co. and it seems that it is only they (Bennetts) who are wanting this.

Just ring Carole Nash and ask them…they’ve had plenty of enquiry’s as to the Bennetts Gate scandal already…;)

When I renewed about 4 weeks ago one of the questions I specifically asked was around modifications and accessories. Answer from Carol Nash, bikesure, and ebike was more or less the same "we need to know about all changes to the bike but the only ones that effect your policy and premium are performance enhancing mods that add more than about 2bhp."

I think we're getting a little carried away with the 'sticker mod' here. Bennetts did not say they won't accept a sticker (as in my 2nd post) but if the sticker was of such size that it altered the appearance of the bike , which would obviously include 'wrapping'.

I've been back on the phone today to Bennetts and the guy was very apologetic about the mods policy and stated that it was out of his hands They have had a lot of complaints and are apparently trying to get the underwriters to withdraw this part of the policy.
Quite when/if this will happen is anyones guess and so I have made enquiries elsewhere for my future cover.

As well as the Go Compare quotes I received yesterday I decided today to get a quote from my last insurer, Carole Nash. I'm quite satisfied with the quote given and the lack of restrictions with accessories/mods and will prob go back to them as despite not being the cheapest quote they are offering a better package overall. In fact their compulsory excess is more than half that of the cheapest quote I received form CIA (not sure I like that name for starters! :unsure: )
Carole Nash has a policy regarding performance mods in so much as they accept an 'end can' upgrade as a non-mod provided it doesn't increase performance by more than 5%.

As mad as it may seem the guy at Bennetts appeared to agree with me that the restrictions are a bit OTT. I mean for heavens sake, can't have a Scottoiler? What good is an 'Adventure Bike', or any tourer if after you put heated grips, a touring screen and crash bars on only to find you have put your tent and sleeping bags etc in your pockets because you're not allowed luggage to be fitted? :silly:

Taxdisc holder?

Retail Sticker?

Numberplate?

I'm with Devitt Insurance, rang them today, and they said they have no plans to introduce anything like Bennetts. Like Carole Nash, they want to know about performance enhancing mods, that's all.

Accessories are covered up to £500 (or half a Metal Mule pannier).

Slightly worrying thread this

I recently had to sell on my Devil exhaust as was informed my policy was invalid with aftermarket pipes. Irrespective of performance :huh:

I'm currently with Motorcycle Direct, they did add my topbox & screen to the value of the bike though. I forgot to mention heated grips, hand guards, engine guard, after market handlebar, tail tidy, indicators, braided hoseline, tax disc holder & a couple of stickers though. Guess I better not crash :woohoo:

Wonder what the deal is with tyres if using an alternate to original spec?

Sounds more like a "We've got too many customers, some of you please leave" rule to me.

Thanks for all the posts on this thread, it's defo one for us to dig into. If I was a gambling man I'd put money on Bennetts retracting this policy if their intention is to stay in the biking market as every biker I know has more than three mods - using their criteria.

I've a good contact in Bennetts PR department I'll give him a call next week and see what he has to say.
