I can't believe that some guy has had misfortune of his company having to cease trading and his employees have lost thier jobs and this forum has managed to turn it into yet another Brexit discussion!

We all know there are a lot more reasons for companies going to the wall than just Brexit!

Who can honestly say they haven't bought something online because it was cheaper than the high street price,I know I have!

Also it was pointed out that AJP is hardly a market leader in bikes and I'm guessing this could go a little way with a company not making a profit.

As always this is just my personal opinion and I'm sure some of the nice folk on here will be along soon to correct me if I have said something wrong about Brexit (thumbs)

I agree, AJP were never going to make it, they were junk! Many new riders asked me if they were a good buy and I advised to steer well clear. They cost as much as a 2 year old KTM or Jap bike and lasted 12 months if you could get the spares.

In your opinion and based on what exactly ? have you owned one? ridden one ? I thought as much ! There is a very different view where I live, AJP have had a strong presence and performed well in local events with an exemplorary record supported by a great back-up and service. I have owned a shed load of Orange machinery in the past from 200 to 990cc and in my opinion they do not live up to the hype or price tag they command, a point I make regularly with a great riding mate who is South Wales main KTM dealer.

To be fair, AJP were not trying to deceive people, they pitched at a particular market, the price reflected the quality and performance of their bikes. And before anyone spouts off about residual value and what it would be worth in 2 years time compared to a KTM, the answer is there are too many people with less money still prepared to pay too much for the Orangery hype, even second hand, it doesn't make them better bikes. High maintenance costs, high cost for spares and low service intervals will point you toward a ' whole life cost' figure, it may surprise you to know that KTM come out rather poorly compared to its mainstream competition for cost of ownership, think about it ?

Calm down Sarge, yes I have ridden one and had the misfortune to have worked on them as well. They are junk, and I would not give them shed room. I have no allegiance to KTM, yes I did work for them so probably know more about them than you do and I ran tours using them over a period of 6 years, hey what do I know. I even have one of those unreliable KTM's here now. Its my 20th ish (lost count) 525 and has 200 hours plus on it and never been apart. In fact over the last 2 years this 12 year old bike as cost me ........oil filters, oil, tyres, chain and sprockets. If in future you need any tips on servicing your KTM and saving a bit of money give me a shout. Oh yeh I have a 2005 950 which I have owned for 2 year and spends as much time off road as it does on and that to as cost just service consumables. Please Sarge don't assume that every one comes on here half cocked, it would be like me assuming you are a dick head. (thumbs)

It's good to disagree, especially for KTM, they love people who wear their Pyjamas. My point was/is AJP bikes are not shite, their bikes and parts are priced fairly unlike KTM, and there is nothing you can tell me about servicing or repairing a motorbike, trust me !

So you have worked for KTM? Ok then here's the question. Take a brand new AJP cost 4k ish and then a 12 year old KTM 525/450/400/250 rfs for 2.5k ish which will last longer? I had 525's in Turkey that had done 2000 hours plus as tour bikes? I would admit that the current cost of bikes , that's all bikes is just stupid but that price is nothing to do with quality of build, its what the market will stand. 4k for a 250 AJP is the same as 7k for a KTM 250f only one is at the top of the tree the other a waste of 4k. I can not see the logic in having the choice between a 2 year Jap/European bike in good nick which will last another 10 plus years and be competitive if raced, or brilliant if trail ridden as apposed to a brand new AJP which even when new will be poorly suspended, and will last a couple of years. That is if you don't compete on it, then it will last a week. It's nothing to do with weather I like AJP or not it's just pure common sense.

we do a ccm 230 stick badges on prc cheap shite. ajp are trail bikes ktm race bike ,most people only ride orange on the trail for image .ccm have made the 450 but thats not cheap. most riders want to look good and be seen to have the right bike ! ajp just dont sell thats the truth its the same as old skoda. try one one it might work for you ..

I went shopping yesterday and put the Lurpak (Danish) back on the shelf and bought Welsh butter instead, Cornish Brie instead of French , English Cheddar instead of Edam, British milk, Chocolate from Birmingham (no more of that Belgian stuff), English apples instead of imported ones; oh and I've bought a bike built in Bolton employing British workers, so we can all make small changes post-Brexit to put the 'Great' back into Great Britain.

Some of us are old enough to remember the "I'm buying British" campaign back in the 70's.

If we all make small changes ie Altberg boots instead of Sidi, a Scottoiler or Tutoro instead of an imported one etc etc then maybe we can reverse the rot of having become a nation of importers and retailers and treat Brexit as an opportunity and not a calamity.

I agree with buying English lamb as opposed to importing New Zealand lamb but please leave Welsh lamb off the shopping list or we'll run out of evening entertainment down these parts

Can't really argue with either of those posts! It says alot about us as a nation of importers. Like everyone I'm guilty of it too.
My reason is usually down to price of goods plus I like to ride a certain bike that's not made in the UK.
Big companies are a lot to blame too.

They import cheap and then stick a large percentage on top. I have a VW T5 I needed 2 driveshafts, VW wanted near £800. I went with the Eurocarparts shafts at just over £200. When I opened the box they were stamped with the VW Audi badge granted they tried to grind the badges off one of the shafts but i could still make it out.
If the likes of Euro Carparts can make a profit on those shafts what profit is VW making!
I know VW isn't a UK company but I'm just making a point of the profits these companies make from us as consumers.
Surely if things were once again made in the UK cutting out transport costs, import costs and the likes then maybe we would start buying again and the hot topic on ABR could take a different direction and we could get back to talking about bikes, Adventure travel and all those things we joined the site for!

Totaly agree. But I would go further, put a 40% tax on any imports including Triumph. Then it would make sense to buy British. As for Nissan and Honda either they are manufactured here or we won't be buying them. Same apllys to the Germans.
