Out of interest can I ask how your travel insurance works.

Firstly its seems a fairly high risk area at the moment?

I went on a trip to hungary and the small print said that if I was not in ce approved clothing at a time of the accident my medical bills may not be covered. It was only touching on 40c during my trip and pretty unbearable. Morroco will be hotter, I was there for our honeymoon and it was scorching.

I like the idea of it for 2017 if the missus allows me to holiday on my own.

Hi WIBO, Morocco is a place I have wanted to visit either by 4x4 or motor bike for the last fifteen years or so and need to do it before I get much older so would also be interested in joining you next year (2017) if I can get my neck problem sorted. Do you have any idea of which month it would be and what bikes do other people ride?

I think I would need to get another bike though as my elderley VFR800 may not be suitable!

Hi Cone.

My standard moto and medical insurance covers me to drive and be there without any loading or problems. Its probably got a lot to do with the French connection historically. The French holiday there as the British holiday in Spain as it were,especially in the Winter. The time of year I travel ensures there's no scorching heat with it usually averaging about 25c or thereabouts...think Canary Islands.

In the summer you'll find it hot.

I've never found it,to date,to be a 'high risk' area since I started to visit there.


2017 will normally be in and around the French school holidays for any riders with family.

Timings are usually October when the kids are off school here. Any riders with family,that are needed to taxi to various clubs and activities,they cease for the same timings.

If it were I and starting from scratch,with the view to choosing ,I'd buy a single cylinder moto upwards of 600cc Then the usual twins apply....KTM's Africa Twins Transalps type.


Last year there was a 4X4 along with the group and also a car. The 4X4 went wherever we did and the car people bunny hopped to meet us by tarmac. To enjoy the desert stays I organised a 4X4 to bring them from tarmac to the desert accommodation.

At this stage,even for next year,there may be a 4X4 going. If you're not in fine fettle enough for a moto you can split the costs within the 4X4?

If you've been hankering to visit that part of Africa for so long....better give it a whirl when the opportunity presents itself?

Does anyone ride a CCM GP450 on your trips as its a nice light bike and hopefully relaible enough to cover the distance.

No one has been with me on a CCM to date. You could ping Minkeyhead on these forums and ask how his CCM covers constant autoroute speeds.... 110-120kph is our kind of average speed if there's the likes of a DRZ400 tagging along...if it can cruise at those speeds then why not!!!

Hats off to Roger aka 'querty' for bringing me a front tyre all the way from the UK as it couldn't be found at the right price here.

He has asked the collective if sellotape will be ok to secure it to his moto. I said bailer twine would be better?

If any one has any other ideas as to how to secure the tyre,by all means chime in.



I did of course say that if he crashed it would better he hit his face on the tyre rather than the wind screen.


PS I dreaded to ask what the double pink-ended long thing was on his tail bag.....and why he was bringing it.....

Hi WIBO, this looks really great, can't make this year (browny points an all) but definitely up for 2017 - Mar or Oct. Have been riding with Minky, so will try to get him along too (hotels only for him). I ride a CCM450 will cruise at 70 all day and upto 90 in bursts, only problem can be the rubber fitted, current choice Army 644 front and Mitas E09 rear did cause tank slapping around mid 70s, although this eased a bit once the tyres had been squared off a bit.
When would you normally decide firm dates etc.
