I think it's great news.
Those that are truly worried by the legal implications and can't ride (or seemingly live) without their ears being wired, won't go. More room for the rest of us. Excellent.
Those that somehow manage to get stopped, caught and fined, will wish that they hadn't gone. Plod will be busy dealing with them and won't be able to look at the rest of us as we 'Make progress at speeds appropriate' (ie speed). Doubly excellent.
France bans the use of headsets.

Re: France bans the use of headsets.
they will be banning those soon enough, and what about ear defenders (ear plugs) ? they may stop you hearing something, they would be better of tackling the drink and drugs problems on the roadsuturntony wrote:The world really is going mad. Just rode through both France and Spain with my wires to my satnav clearly visible and never had a problem and yes I did see police.

Had a taxi pull out on me yesterday, turning right at a roundabout, coming round it to his left, he drove straight onto the roundabout without even looking left, mouth yakking away 19 to the dozen, to somebody on a built in handsfree. His mind was entirely on that conversation and not at all on his driving.
I have a built in hands free and I drive around the country visiting customers, my car is my office, so I do use it, but only when I'm on a straight road or motorway. At significant junctions and hazards I explain to the caller that I'm driving and there's something I need to concentrate on so please could they hold a moment while I get through it, everyone replies "yes, yes, no problem, take your time" and I hit the mute button on the dashboard.
I know that sometimes I can be on a business call on a motorway that takes a lot of thought, and when I hang up I find myself in a section of roadworks in a 50 limit and I think "shit, what speed have I been doing and when did these roadworks start?"
So I have no doubt in my mind that the conversation itself is as much of an issue as the holding of the phone, which is a visibility and neck mobility issue only.
I'd be happy to see hands free kits banned from cars, and the way to enforce it is to make it illegal to own one, just the same as they do with radar speed trap detectors or jammers.
I wouldn't miss being able to take a call in the car, and my work would no longer have the expectation that I'll be available whilst driving (my work car policy currently requires that I have a hands free kit fitted).
If I need to phone my wife to say what's for dinner and do you need to to bring anything, I'll stop in a lay by.

All you have to do is find one and then hope it isn't blocked by truck drivers waiting for their Tacho to let them drive on, or a van with a "Scrap Cars Wanted" advertisement dumped in it.-Ralph- wrote:............. I'll stop in a lay by.
In the UK, lay by's are as rare as rocking horse shite and the ones that do exist, take about 4 cars.
Re: France bans the use of headsets.
I saw above a comment that suggested that intercoms are banned in Spain... This is incorrect see here http://n332.es/2015/04/03/is-it-legal-t ... intercoms/
As for France I have yet to verify if the law is to change here for intercoms. But if it is it isn't slowing down the sale of Scala and other Bluetooth equipment.

Okay after checking it refers to ear phones and in ear devices for France. It clearly says in this article that it is tolerated inside of motorcycle helmets...
