Well ive made it to lincolnshire. Very very happy indeed. What a machine
I cant put my finger on it but a combination of many tjings just make this bike a simply fantastic piece of kit . The handling and the way it just eats the miles with ease is phenominal. Im over the moon with the r1200gs after the fiest 150 miles. Another 150 back to london tonorrow.and cant wait.

most of us that have experienced the charms of the big boxers do know what the attraction is, but it takes a few miles to appreciate the character. I've done about 150k miles on boxers and would not hesitate buying another, if they only done a sport touring version

Out of interest, which dealer took you nearly 200miles from home and why?
Congrats on the bike and I'd guess you'll keep it longer than 6 months. Below is a snap of my mates machine very similar to you own.

well its been a long weekend but ive not returned to London with my GS. set off at 6.30am saturday morning and in my stupidity put on my summer gloves. well im stubborn and refused to stop until id done 100 miles, my hands were frozen. in the services had a coffee and a fella pulls up on his KTM 990 Adventure and we had a chat, not sure if hes a member here, was on his way to Wales.

changed gloves and cracked on the last 100 miles to BMW Motorrad Manchester. had a few problems with the sat nav about 10 miles from manchester and was worried that id struggle to find the dealer but was all ok in the end.

pulled into the dealer and my new (to me) R1200GS was sat at the handover bay waiting for me. had a look round and was really happy. a stunning bike.

set off for chesterfield and ran through the peak district, all 50mph by the way which opens up nicely, a perfect spot for a police camera van and sure enough just after it opening up there was one sat there. luckily id stuck to the speed limit. stopped at chesterfield to see an old friend before continuing to Louth Lincolnshire via Lincoln.

stayed with friend in Lincolnshire and went to see some family before returning the 160 miles to home today via a closed A14 and a long diversion.

absolutely adore the GS, very well balanced and really sweet engine. it just simply works fantastically. everything is well thought out, it just sticks to the road. having fuel range etc... with the comfort pack is really nice also. the pannier system is superb but wouldnt fancy dropping it on them. Most importantly i can touch the floor flat with both feet which feels superb after the dramas i had with the tenere and my short legs. only bad points are the seat hurting after a while (more so than my tenere i think) and the indicator cancellation switch is difficult to do comfortably with my winter gloves on but seemed ok with my other gloves.

480 miles over the weekend and one very happy new R1200 owner. find myself wanting to just get on the bike and any excuse will do.

Great report and your enthusiasm comes through in your writing. By the time I got half way in I was starting to wonder whether I should get one.

thanks mate. id recommend one to anyone. also had it across a bumpy field earlier today when i went to watch my mate do some enduro practice at a course in Lincolnshire. despite having distinct road tyres I thought it felt quite nice although i took it very easy. got some protection add ons I need to do :)

big thanks to Williams BMW Motorrad also for a great service and restoring my faith in the motor trade. i expect a certain kind of treatment when your spending that kind of money on a bike and I certainly got it.

now lets look at some maps and see where to go :woohoo:

Chaos is the only camouflage that incompetence needs to operate at full capacity.

I dunno where that road goes, might as well go take a look anyway there's no where else i need to be right now.
