Just reading through and can see you made the decision. But for any others out there with the same dilema, I used to use an MSR Dromedary bladder to carry fuel. Can get them in 4, 6 and 10L. Didnt want to carry a rotopax for the reasons discussed. So research and found plenty of testing with the bladders on ADV rider. Have a google. Only downside is the bladder is for water use, but as said plenty of research out there with lots of people using them for fuel. I used it successfully on several occasions. Folds up nice and neat when not in use.
