Trying a new way to put pictures on, be patient, it might not work.

Neiden, morning of day six (?), we can't see any salmon trying to get up the waterfall.





Yesterday ended up being a 470 mile day by the time we've done the Russian border, the Arctic Ocean and back to the digs, we decide to have a shorter day, get within striking distance of Nordkapp.
It's 231 miles to Porsanger, Russenes (EENE) and a gentle bimble along the north coast, the first real day of fjords.





We arrive at a campsite and get a room in a very large, shared hut, have our ready meal and it's still relatively early. We decide to 'do' Nordkapp tonight, it's 75 miles from the hut, but the weather is fine and it's mainly a coastal road up there, it's also gone 11 at night, so the Toll booths might not be manned (no chance), so off we trot...

70 miles later and to say it's getting cold would be an understatement, as the E69 starts to rise away from the coast, a thick mist sets in, we battle on, shivering and struggling to see the road, ahead we see a green light, it's the toll booth at the entrance! The young lady asks us for NOK 260 each, we've done our homework, "I believe there's a reduced price ticket, we're not interested in the short film or a look around the museum ..." It saves us NOK 90 each, but they don't offer it unless you ask.

I ignore the barriers to stop you taking vehicles around the back and ride to the monument.







You couldn't see anything over the edge, apparently the cliffs are stunning.
I found some over gloves in one of my many bags, I'd had the foresight to take a jumper, just wish I'd put it on sooner.
So, my review of Nordkapp, a lot of people say it's not worth going, there's a lot more to Norway and they're right, it's a long way further than you need to go to experience Norway, but, it's a goal and an accomplishment and you can't say it's not worth doing until you've done it.
For me, getting to the Russian border and up to the Arctic Ocean, at the end of the 886 was much more of an achievement.

the russian border is a hell of an acomplishment! i think that hardanger has enough of norways culture, but seeing lappland is also worth doing.
did you see any moose? i still havent, i am thinking that they are a made up creature to lure in tourists, like the loch ness monster and bigfoot....

Yes, we came across a moose, it was in Finland though, on one of the 'biking roads' we'd took through a national park, it was a youngster and just stood in the middle of the road; it sauntered off at it's own pace, when it was ready.

Quick question. Just read that motorcycles don't pay motorway tolls in Norway, is that still the case and which lane at the toll booths is best to head for?

There are no toll booths, there are gantries across the roads with cameras on, it's all done electronically.
I don't think I saw a motorway either, if there are any, I think you'd be best avoiding them, the E6 is the main drag up the country, and while it's brilliant in places, a bit of planning will get you onto 'the best biking roads'
The default speed limit out of town is 56mph (ish) and the Norwegians stick to it, in towns it's quite infuriating trundling along at less than 30mph, but it's what it is
Can you imagine coming to Britain, driving up the M1 and saying you'd seen the country?

bikes dont pay toll (or "bompenger") unless you take a ferry, then its hidden in the price for some reason, still not sure why.
we have motorways, they just suck, the E6 is a motorway as is the E39 in places, just dont expect 4 lanes or speedlimits over 100kmh... mostly the speed limit here is 80kmh... if you are wondering anything just send me a PM, im english and moved over here a few years ago...

Father has sent me an abridged version of his report and I'll publish it here when I've figured out how, he's also posted me the maps we've used, I'll try and get a photo of those when they get here.

I went for the Badlands jacket and trousers, because I'm worth it and I've been a good lad. A lady in Finland complemented me on my outfit, saying l looked very professional.

Got Latitude trouser but have been look at the badlands did you think it was much better than the other Klim jackets ? and why, before I spend the extra cash (thumbs)
