First bike for a new female rider

If it has to 125cc I would agree with the suggestion of a Honda xl125r
Cheap enough to buy used
Light
Small
Reliable
Economical
Residual value won't take too much of a hit when you move it on
Build quality will be far better than the Chinese and cheap European trail bikes

Definitely AJP PR3 125.
Light and low which is what will give her confidence. Cracking little bike, very capable.
I've taught 2 female friends to ride off road this summer on my PR3 240. One had had a disastrous CBT, the other had only ever gone pillion. They both loved the bike. One has done some off road stuff since but said that the Honda she rode didn't feel nearly as good as my AJP. She's now looking for an AJP to continue her riding on....

When I first met my other half (back in 97) she was riding one of the first R1's! Some fool asked if it was comfortable on the back, the reply was she couldn't reach the bars from there
Scared the crap outta me trying to keep up with that thing!

I just brought her a AJP PR3 125 trail, its new (but 2014 stock) on a 65 plate and comes with 2 year parts and labour warranty. list price is £2749 and to clear its £1699 on the road (thumbs)

Lady in the shop stated they use the PR3 for CBT bikes and its ideal for smaller riders as AJP state " the PR3 could be considered a 3/4 size bike, ideal for shorter in the leg riders or for those that just prefer a smaller bike for increased confidence"

In my humble opinion, that Yamaha dt125 would fit the bill perfectly, great bikes and reliable.

Agree and great if she wishes to trail ride.
How about the Yamaha Serrow?

Not sure but they are clearing old stock to make way for new stock so are basically selling at near cost price.

Looks like a proper piece if kit. 17 year olds don't know how good they have it nowadays with all the new bikes emerging.
