I too live in Lancashire and what I like is that within an hour I can be in either Cumbria, Yorkshire, Derbyshire and my favourite North Wales and a little further and longer - Scotland; However I do envy folk darn sarf as they are closer to the chunnel, but I would go to Hull for the ferry anyway which is about a 100 mile ride, but you know that anyway. So I don't think being ooop north is that bad. (thumbs)

I win? I live in the furthest northern out post of the Yorkshire dales.
Every which way is an epic ride.
If I had to ride somewhere to have a ride I'd give up.

Me too, straight out of the village & into the Dales or up Sutton Bank into the Moors

If I had to endure a m/way or miles of urban sprawl to get to a decent National Park to ride in - I'd sell the bikes

Hell - I can get all the way to the ferry on minor & B roads

Riding a bike on motorways is shite & best avoided

I had 15 years of living in Northants and loved it but as for bad/nice bits I'll offer you the eastern badlands of Northampton and stop right there :whistle:

I used to really enjoy nights out working my way down Abington St then finishing up with a brawl on Bridge St if I couldn't get to Ritzys night club before kicking out time.

It's about where to live, not where to ride and unless my geography skills have deserted me Yorkshire enjoys gems such as Keighley, Bradford, Hull and countless other carbuncles on the face of Great Britain.

If I'd said Bedfordshire you could have thrown Luton or Dunstable back at me but I didn't (thumbs)

I work in Keighley and live in Haworth. You're forgetting that despite being a bit of a sh*thole (with some lovely Victorian architecture), Keighley has all the facilities you need (especially great curry houses) and is only a 25 minute train journey from Leeds for all the designer shops etc. SWMBO could wish for.

On my doorstep I have the beautiful Pennines and there's basically nothing between here and Glasgo/Edinburgh except the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, Bowland, North Pennines, Dumfries & Galloway and the Cheviot hills.

The cost of living is pretty cheap as I can buy a detached house for £200-250k in a nice area and the ferry to Rotterdam or Zeebrugge is only 80 miles away and I can take a very scenic route to get there. Life's pretty good here in the West Riding (thumbs)

I used to live just up the road at Hunstanton,lovely part of the world.

Now live in deepest darkest Wiltshire which Is another great county for biking.
