I knew his brother and was aware of his father.

Steve was originally a Saturday Boy at Rob Willsher Suzuki in Bursledon before joining Hants Pol as a Civilian Employee and subsequently becoming a Police Officer. My usual crew mate actually trained him as a probationer. B*llocks, such a shame.

Tough on his Team Mate following as well.

In North Wales remember when we had cameras hidden in horseboxes, in broken down caravans in lay-bys etc and yet the accident statistics kept climbing up and up (those recorded as KSI: Killed or Seriously Injured)

Camera revenue kept rising, police traffic departments kept being cut and KSI's keep rising year on year-go figure it out.

There are many dicks out there in cars and goodness knows i've encountered them many at one time or another but i wonder just how much of a part of the death of this unfortunate Police Officer is attributed to the fact that he was on an unmarked bike? I know that if i had to ride a bike for a living (and sometimes at speed in pursuit) in no way would i want to be doing it on something so stealthy. That just increases the chances of not being seen in my opinion.
My main beef or argument with all those hidden cameras, undercover bikes and cars is that its designed to catch you unawares rather than be fully visible and act as a first point deterrent. There is only one answer, £££££££££'ssssssssss in easy to award penalty tickets and fines

I do hope CID revisit their training again, I instructed a number of them down the years as 'traffic' didn't want to (senior officers infighting) back then, on plain jane bikes. One of the big problems of being trained by officers on marked bikes, whilst riding a marked bike is the 'I'm clearly visible' mind-set. I've had issues before with CID and that lot on Segensworth East driving unmarked vehicles dangerously, their 'superior' mind-set doesn't help, I was trained at Sulhampstead BTW.

Having passed through the location, on the way into and back from work, I do wonder just how fast Steve was moving, IF it was a 'follow job' possibly quite fast, and that petrol station is well known for illegal U turns and poor sight-lines, excessive road-side signage and 'landscaping' around such sites needs addressing, the Co-op Texaco along Highlands Road in Fareham is even worse!

Errr Hampshire driver training use unmarked bikes????

Save the guess work and wait for the inquest.

I knew Steve too socially not professionally as a biker, dad and curry lover. He had a very high risk job so I have to say the news was not a shock but no less sad. R.I.P.

Your entitled to you opinion and I am entitled to mine. Read some of the other posts on this topic, looks like I am not only one with my thoughts on this tragic incident.
Highly visible police bike versus plain under cover bike. Which is more visible on the road in all weather conditions? you do the math, Fella.

I'm not going to get in to an argument over the death of a friend. Guess away if it makes you feel better. I'll wait for the enquiry thanks. I'm sure it will state if he was on an operation or just a routine journey. What ever the outcome, he wasn't generating revenue.

It's nothing to do with your opinion .. He is stating a fact that the rider was not involved in road policing activity.. He was involved in an operation that was wholly unsuited to the use of marked vehicles so your points about revenue raising are irrelevant to this tragedy
