Tank Range

Not got a clue about miles to gallon, I work out everything in range, typically with my dero I get 350KM before I have to think about filling it up, if I play about that can go down to 300 - 330

BUT riding to Norway speed limits and enjoying the scenery I was at the 400km mark before the reserve light came on.

Strange thing is though, after the tour the chain needed replacing, so I changed the sprockets for better cruising speed, I should have used less fuel due to the lower revs but I was burning more, I'm going back to the original rear 47 setup.

Any one want a nearly new 45 tooth sprocket

Anyway, to my point! 227 miles covered on 19.93 litres works out at 51.78 mpg.
I think that is pretty dammed good for a 1200 boxer twin with a fat bloke on board.

Can anyone beat this?

I was just looking back through some of the notes / pics I made on a trip down through Western Sahara a few years ago on a Honda XR600. Leaving Laayoune with a full tank I also covered 227 miles until the next stop. It took 10.61 litres. (96mpg!). I was so amazed I took a pic of the pump display. Normally I'd expect to get 50-55mpg and that's what it had been doing up to that point. Mind you, the average speed was only 43mph so that probably explains it.

The bike had a nine gallon (40L) tank so I could probably have kept going for a bit longer.:laugh: :laugh: Just to prove it wasn't a complete freak, the next two fuel stops gave 71 and 73 mpg with average speeds a bit higher (around 50mph).

She drinks a lot less on long trips and motorways, which is great in summer.
Stopping at stations our of habit, only to find the tank is still fairly full.

The "usual" MPG is much less I ride around the city 95% of the time... :dry:

Yup get around 50 to the gallon on the R1100GS and Jules has the twin spark F650GS. we usually fill both bikes together and her fuel is nearly always a third of the total we put in the bikes.

The time was when a German tank range was right across Poland!

I must admit reading all the posts and riding my little scoot for nearly a year now ,i dunno if im getting tight or i may just go touring on my 125 (slowly) save money on fuel, more money for rooms and most importantly wine

It's one of the things that makes me ride the Enfield locally rather than the GS. I'd seriously go away on that with it's 70+mpg as long as I was on my own. I won't ask anyone to follow, again, unless they are on a similar bike as it must be soul destroying.

When out with the Varadero, compared to Fiona's F650GS I'm usually around £20 to fill up and Fiona's around £13! Fuel and range is playing a bigger part now as fuel costs soar. That said, if I take out either Fiona's GS or my Ickle ST I only get around 120 miles to a tank compared to her 200! SteveT says that's my fault,,,,,, hmmmmm
I had an old Royal Enfield 500T a few yrs ago, a cracking little bike! It brought back memories of when I started riding bikes, mainly as I had a Honda SS50 that would have given it a good race! LOL! On the flat it would pull 80mph but if the wind was against you it was a struggle to hold 60! It leaked oil just like a real British bike and starting was a hit or a miss! (Points ignition). I did love the look of the bike, it also sounded great and would perhaps consider a newer one with electronic ignition if it came up.
I hope the new Tiger is reasonable in fuel as I am considering one. Fuel costs are definitely on my mind for the future.

my last xt660z tenere was the best for petrol miles per gallon 23L tank it didnt seem to matter riding slow or whipping the bitch 260-280 per tank full

according to bikes computer got 52mpg out of the 1200rt (2 up and fully luggaged) on the romania trip i did last year. 2 up = 1 FB + wife
