Re: EU. In or out?
Because there are already 3 million living here, it's only 1 piece of legislation to make it easier for migrants from 27 countries to settle, as opposed to 27 pieces of legislation to allow migrants from 1 country to settle, and the reality is our economy needs the migrants. We aren't going to stop them coming here, we are just stopping ourselves from going everywhere else.Nigel wrote:Why would we pass legalisation allowing EU citizens to drive in the UK? because we are soft that`s why :silly:-Ralph- wrote:Falling back on WTO tariffs if we can't agree within 2 years of Article 50 is absolutely correct.
At which point how much we import or export from the EU becomes completely bloody irrelevant because we'll no longer be in it.
We'd be falling back to deals with individual countries and the only thing that will matter then is how much we import / export to that individual country.
The EU or EEA is only a club for as long as we are in it. As soon as you aren't in it you cease to benefit from agreements made between a bloc of countries, and you have to start negotiating with each individual country.
We'll need 27 different trade agreements, not just the one deal we have now, unless we stay in the EEA and accept free movement of people, capital, goods, etc, in which case most of the reasons people voted Brexit are void.
Businesses will need to employ import/export departments again who deal with the shipments to all the different countries raising the cost of our goods.
Having to deal with 27 new countries individually will apply to everything, not just trade.
Take driving licenses for instance. EU citizens can currently use thier licenses in all 28 countries until they are 70 years old, without swapping or taking a test. I'm sure we will pass new legislation that says EU citizens living here can still use thier licenses. But as we are no longer EU citizens we won't be entitled to the same in the other 27 countries. Why would each of those 27 countries create 27 bits of new legislation to allow UK citizens to use thier driving licenses, when the other 26 don't need it and it's only us with a problem? They won't, we will be treated like any other worldwide visitor allowed to drive for a limited period of time (in the UK for Non EU citizens it's 12 months). So if your dream was to retire in France, expect that at 65 years of age you will need to take driving lessons again and pass a test in France.
The same will apply to every bit of EU legislation we have. We'll no longer be in the club, so we will be treated in the other 27 countries as if we've just arrived from Timbuktu (or possibly the moon).

Re: EU. In or out?
Let me ask you all a question.
The political landscape has changed beyond recognition in the last week.
Hindsight is showing certain things for sure, Boris and Farage lied big time, neither Cameron or Boris are going to be leading us forwards after their campaigns, there is economic damage of the likes warned by Project Fear, Mark Carney announced today he expected a recession, interests rates would have to drop this year not rise, more quantitative easing needed, and immigration won't change if we stay in EEA as all politicians want to (except Farage who has no power).
A large number of people voted as a protest against the establishment and never thought their vote would actually take us out of the EU.
The kids are now moaning, because they also thought Remain would win so didn't get off their arses to vote. 3.8 million 18-24 year olds probably wouldn't make that mistake second time around.
So, it's quite conceivable that the mood amongst the electorate will have changed since 23rd.
We keep talking about democracy and how the will of the people must be carried out.
If YouGov did a poll tomorrow, and that poll showed that a significant majority wanted to change their mind with the hindsight we have, what then?
A lot has changed since 23rd. What if the poll showed the will of the people had changed?

A few titbits from tonight's Facebook.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

One of the headlines on the BBC website this morning is that UK workers in Germany fear for their future.
Fear what? Being victimised on public transport, having banners waved telling them to go home, their children being afraid to go to school or having laminated sheets of paper with having messages of hate shoved through their doors?
We're going to have a new PM inside a couple of months who may or may not be in favour of leaving, the main face of the leave campaign has been stabbed in the back by one of the men who stood beside him campaigning and the leader of the official opposition has been told by the MPs he's supposed to be leading that they don't support him.
It's almost certain that we're sliding into recession again with the best chance of a job school leavers will have next year being replacing East Europeans who we've driven out.
What a mess

So,
At 10:00 today I will deliver the outlook for the long term future of the business to the staff, not a prospect I am looking forward too. There are 3 different EU funded grant mechanisms in place that pay over 50% of my wage bill. The irony is, that EU funding is to keep Welsh people employed, I get nothing to assist me in employing the staff from Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia or Lithuania, I employ them because they are worth employing, well educated, well qualified, hard working, conscientious and extremely punctual. When the time come to decide who stays and who goes, what do the leave campaigners (who want their Country back) expect a small business like me to do ??
People really have no idea what they have done !

Re: EU. In or out?
Sarge wish someone was paying 50% of my wage bill. We want people like you hire but want to be able to control the number coming in. I looked to the future and what will happen in the European, I kept asking about Greece and the unemployment within the rest of the Eu no one was giving me answer it was for me a chance to change a system that was is failing many.
Good luck with your choices
