Noone can predict the future. The UK economy may have steadily declined under Bremain so we can't actually compare apples with apples (I won't say 'bananas' for obvious straight reasons ) .

I expect whover is in charge of pushing the Article 50 button will hold back until all the other options are exhausted. We've already seen the EU bend behind the understandably hard front they are using to the UK. We will continue to trade and get on with our European friends. It's actually up to them how they deal with it anyway.
