I hope so. You name it, it's a waste of 'it'. Bin it. Delete it. Forget it. 'It' is useless.

Hi Scott, it is interesting that the ,admittedly few, Europeans of the older generation that I have spoken to, viewed the EU as a safeguard against the horrors of WW2 being repeated. I think, although I could be wrong, that was one of the reasons Churchill promoted the European Convention of Human rights
One of the failures of this debate was that of the Remain campaign to get the benefits of the EU across to people. I know that there will still be opportunities to travel to and within the EU, but it is likely to be slightly harder and there won't be the EU money to promote cultural exchanges etc. I think Britain and the EU will be poorer and from an education and cultural point of view because of this.
Cheers Jak

I'm quoting myself here; Re-iterating if you like.

'I put the blame for the referendum vote at the feet of our feeble leaders and the intransigent EU leadership. My own view is that a stupid mistake has been made and a General Election should be called with this one issue only to be decided - Do we really, REALLY, want to do this thing?'

Anyone feel like starting up a petition? (I haven't got the strength  )

Lot of posts here on racism, ugly stuff that but dont think some one has to come from another EU country or futher afield to suffer bigotry and racism. As an Irishman who married an English woman we both were subjected to more than our share in England and Ireland. And before some of you tell me that it couldent be racism as we where both white, there are many among us who wouldent consider an Irish Celt the same race as an English Anglo Saxon. Some here talk as if being a member EU state is some magic wand against bigotry/racism. Its not. I work with many immigrants. Some are lovely people, some are the worst racists ive ever meet.....OK tin pot, flak jacket on, fire away.

I didn't really want to add to it all, but I'm afraid that I now feel I must.
Some idiot(s) has/have apparently left some crude and offensive printed cards on doorsteps in the town of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The cards appear to strongly suggest that 'Polish vermin' should 'Leave the EU' - Ay??

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ca ... e-36633388

Now, these cards were almost certainly produced by someone with limited intellectual capacity, as well as only a basic grasp of English grammar. Be that as it may, they are alarmingly similar to the kind of 'message' that was put about so effectively by the world's favourite arch-villains, The Nazis (For the small-brained, that was irony  ). The word 'vermin' was extensively used by the Nazis to incite hatred towards the Jews. That is a verifiable fact, so would any knee-jerk reactionary holocaust deniers please check it out before commenting.
My son, his partner, and my beloved grandson live in Huntingdon. My son's partner is highly educated and qualified. She holds a PHD, which probably makes her better educated than any one of us that have posted on this forum. I would happily stand to be corrected on that point. (Incidentally, I only have a BA honours).
In the space of three days she has gone from being a happy, confident, employed, tax-paying, fellow European, to being afraid for her, and her family's safety. Why? because she is not f******g English! Or even British. She's not Polish; She's Belgian.
Her grandparents are still alive, and still live with the terrible memories of what the Germans did as they rolled over Belgium during WW2.
I put the blame for the referendum vote at the feet of our feeble leaders and the intransigent EU leadership. My own view is that a stupid mistake has been made and a General Election should be called with this one issue only to be decided - Do we really, REALLY, want to do this thing?

Please, if you feel the need to vent your anger, don't write hateful stuff; It just makes everyone a bit unhappier.
This is so sad. I'm so sorry to read this and sorry that it's happening in my country, at least half of which seem at the moment to be so inward looking. I am ashamed of it.

My wife has the benefit of being surrounded by people with a better education, but still felt very unwelcome on Friday morning too. So much so that she refused to go to our local pub Friday or Saturday and stayed at home. Please tell your daughter in law that she will always be welcome in my eyes, and more than half the country feel the same way.

People had thier reasons for voting out, to do with Sovereignty, democracy and fear of a federal Europe and fear of a European army (unfounded fear as Cameron secured exemption for the UK but fear none the less).

Some were worried about the strain on the benefits system from immigration, failing to understand that Cameron had also secured a "can't take out until you pay in" policy moving forwards.

Not everyone who voted out, did so purely due to not wanting immigrants in the country. Those who did are narrow minded fools, who are more to be pitied than scolded.

How to win the next election.

Start a new party called the Student party.
Stay off drink/drugs/partying for a month or 2 (or ask your mum for money) to save up £500 deposit.
Get 649 other people to do the same so you have a rep everywhere.
Run your entire campaign on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram.
Get a Student party campaign app on Google play.
Target everything at the 18-25 age group.
Get all your friends to vote for you and tell them to tell their friends to do the same.
Start a rumour that you wont get served in pubs or your grant/benefits will be cut if you dont vote will ensure a 100% turn out.

All the people over 25 their vote will be split over 3-4 parties, you'll get a bigger % and you'll win.

Stolen from tinternet. Not aimed at anyone here.

Right. Fuck this. We're ALL up shit creek and we need a paddle. Now, not in three months.
Fellow Remain voters: Enough already. Yes, we're all pissed off but navel gazing ain't gonna help. Not all 17 million Leave voters can possibly be racist northern pensioners without an O level to their name. Maybe they have a point about this quitting the EU thing? Maybe not. Whatever, we are where we are and no amount a whinging is gonna change that. Allegedly we're the intelligent ones, so get your thinking caps on.
Leave voters. Well done. Good game. We hear you. Now you need to get stuck in to the aftermath and not just piss off back to Wetherspoons. (Just banter, twats!). And the first person to say they "want their country back" gets deported to fucking Gibraltar. OK?
Politicians.
David. Fuck off. Shut the door behind you. Now.
George. You may be a twat but you're our twat. Plus you know the passwords for our Junior Savers account. Get your calculator. Drop the face-like-a-slapped-ass routine. You're on.
Boris. Sorry mate. That photo of you abseiling by your scrotum over the London Olympics while waving a Union Jack can't ever be un-taken. Plus, you'll never be able to appear on Question Time again without some sturdy Glaswegian nurse asking where the fuck her 350 million quid is. Not only will she have a very good point, she'll be wearing a T shirt that shows you gurning in front of that fucking bus! No captains hat for you I'm afraid.
Theresa. You're in charge love. Get the biggest shoulder pads you've got. We need Ming The Merciless in drag and you'll scare the shit out of 'em.
Nicola. Yep. Fair cop. You probably could get us on a technicality, as could London. But we fucking love shortbread. And oil. And to be honest you're probably the best politician we've got, so we need you on side. Sort your lot out and we promise never to mention that Jimmy Krankie thing again (although it is pretty uncanny) and we'll make you a Dame once we're sorted. Bring Ruth Davidson. She kicks ass.
Opposition party. We'll need one. Someone take Jeremy and John back to the British Legion Club where you found them. Take Nigel as well. Give back their sandals, buy them a pint, then go to Heathrow and collect David Milliband. Fuck it. Lets gets Ed Balls as well. He keeps George on his toes. I think he works on the lottery kiosk at Morrisons now?
Oh. And Mark Carney. Give him a knighthood and tell him to keep that shit coming. We definitely need more of that good shit!
Everyone set? Right. Hold the Easyjet. We're going to Brussels and this ain't no hen party.

Been away all weekend enjoying myself and spending money in Wales.

I'm just listening to Osbourne's new "U" turn on what was going to happen.

First and foremost Cameron got voted in at the last election on the back of offering a referendum. He gave us a referendum and the great unwashed spoke and that's called democracy, so now people are calling for all sorts and some off them don't like the answer they got again that's called democracy. Every time we vote lot's of people don't get want they want it's called life.

How about stopping the hand wringing and all the doom and gloom and how about putting the hand of friendship out rolling our sleeves up and getting on with the fucking job.

The ruling elite throughout the world in their ignorance and arrogance really did not think this would happen, they thought it was a joke, well he who laughs last laughs longest. Now perhaps they will listen more and be about the people more, remember one thing they are there for us and not the other way round. We are not there for the EU.

Merkel wants to deal and she is the power broker so lets stretch out the right arm grip the forearm of the person opposite and get our arse's in gear

Whole new bright world out there for the generations to come

cheers Spud ;)
