I consider myself someone who respects farmers property whether on foot or rubber but I also love the freedom to roam. There are too few rights of way now following a few centuries of land-owner-power. When I come across a route that has been covered in crops I know legally I should barge my way through although sometimes that may not be safe. I would happily walk around the edge to avoid damaging the farmers crop but then risk prosecution. I also try and be courteous on two wheel by slowing to a crawl when passing folks and passing through farmyards. My daughter has been mentally scared for life after being stampeded by a herd of cows-with-calf across one route.
One right-of-way passed through the back garden of a cottage (poor sods) and they have placed a tall gate locked from the inside across the path. I had to scale the wall to unlatch it and let my family through.
Unfortunately if there is no organised group to keep these open then they will be lost in my opinion. But also if we respect the land also then the owners may feel it is less necessary to try and prevent us using the right of way.
I was thinking of joining TRF but this whole thread has put me off completely.

The TRF is being ruined by, essentially, one person, as you have probably read.
Unfortunately, he has a lot of self given powers and, until the AGM, it is virtually impossible to unseat him. Any dissent is swiftly dealt with by removing forum posts and written abuse in response.
Equally unfortunately, normal member apathy will make it difficult to unseat him, even with an 'against' vote, as he probably has enough accolytes to keep him in power.

The TRF is desparately needed but the direction it is currently going is suicidal.

That'll explain the chumming up with MAG then.

TRF becomming Extinct?

Post by -Ralph- »

The TRF director concerned showed his true colours several years ago with his forum posts and the way he treated anyone who either rode green lanes without joining the TRF, or anyone who disagreed with what the TRF do.

I'm not sure why this situation is a surprise.

It's a shame the TRF have fallen so badly but remember, they'll probably have a stand at the NEC and the director in question might be helping out on it in his role as a director. That might be a very good opportunity for potential members to quiz him about TRF goals (get a friend to sneakily film it (thumbs) ) and it might be fun for ex members like myself to tell him why they left.

I've come to the conclusion that the money saved by not renewing annually will go towards a good solicitor if ever prosecuted for RoW issues.
