But they still need to show that they have ability. They have to qualify to get an entry. By completing one of the qualifying events, such as the Merzouga Rally in Morroco.
And then you need a big pot of money, some luck, a bit more money, a strong mental attitude, some luck, physical strength and probably a bit more money.

you're right but with big pot of money you can buy master degree cert so I think cert of completion of some small rally will be not a problemOnHellas wrote:But they still need to show that they have ability. Oh PLEASE do your research before you post such misinformation--basically I know I can skip your posts --but I'd rather read a positive and informed THREAD!!. Money is secondary to the entry--as has been said you need to QUALIFY--and then its up to the organisers to create the right mix of "professional teams " and so called amateurs--and what you don't see or hear about is the number of applicants that DON'T get accepted. The organisers want people that at least stand a chance of finishing--they only have so many medivac helos!robson wrote:you're right but with big pot of money you can buy master degree cert so I think cert of completion of some small rally will be not a problemOnHellas wrote:But they still need to show that they have ability. When Mr Boorman entered the Dakar the money and who you were with route may well have worked.
And yes the organisers want ' names' to enter.
But the qualifying route now applies. And if you can complete the Merzouga Rally, which is now owned by the Dakar organisers as they bought it from the guy that started it, you're a good rider.
The Dakar is designed so that not everyone finishes. It is tough. They don't want unfit, unproven riders like me turning up. That have a responsibility to make sure entrants have some ability. Hence the qualification.
It really isn't a group of loaded Hoo-Ray Henries having jolly japes in the desert. (Anymore).
