Can recommend the Hotel Zur Post in Klotten, right on the Mosel - dedicated bike parking andthe owner, Klaus, is a local foodie writer and cooks fantastic local dishes.

True, but you get used to it and it's not so bad if you get a room at the back. Klaus is a lovely fella and the food is excellent (thumbs)

What makes you say that, have you stayed there before ?There's loads of history in Aachen by the looks of it.

I stayed there last year, to visit the cathedral and FC Moto's shop on the outskirts. The inside of the cathedral is stunning, small but beautiful. The old town is very small, only a few building remain and they aren't really that outstanding; this is probably due to the RAF. The rest of the city centre is just modern shops. Aachen is one of the very few places in Germany I've been disappointed with and I've visited a lot (four times last year alone).

Good shout Tourider, it's the 'Alte stadt' that I like most, mmm best not to over plan, may just have a re-think :whistle:

We asked someone who lives in the area and works with my wife for suggestions and he made a very good case for stopping in Aachen and it was only really because we prefer smaller towns that we opted for Monschau.

We've already decided to take the train to Aachen for a day so that's somewhere else that I'll do a sleaze report on when I get home. Don't worry about it Stewie, you'll have up to date information on the places least likely to throw you out for being pissed (thumbs)

My thinking as I'm going on my own, it's central to what I want to do, heading north one day and south for a spin around Rursee for a few days, and the Euro's will be in full swing (thumbs)

Nobody panic, I've fund a place on the 266 that on their website has the magic words - Frühstücksbuffet, Kneipe & Biergarten (thumbs)

Hi i live in the Eifel 4 miles from the Nurburgring, Cochem as ppl have said is beautiful if you go there visit the Geierlay Hängeseilbrücke which is a suspension bridge very cool! The Nurburgring is a must and the roads around are as good. Monshau is pleasant, there is many places to stay for around €30 a night with breakfast so i hope you didn't pay too much, Enjoy.
