When will we ever learn?
Re: When will we ever learn?
I'm very wary about doing things in the name of NATO because the Turks have recently told Russia they're playing with fire of they mess with Turkey and the Ukraine would love to be members which would put us in a very dodgy situation.

If the Turks get 'heavy' with Russia in the name of NATO then they will have a shock because NATO will force the Turks to back down. Whilst there is an obligation for a member of NATO to help a fellow member militarily that is only if they are legitimately threatened. The other mebers of NATO won't let them pick a proper fight with Russia and secondly the European members of NATO have the bargaining power with the Turks because they want to fully join the EU.AndyB wrote:I'm very wary about doing things in the name of NATO because the Turks have recently told Russia they're playing with fire of they mess with Turkey and the Ukraine would love to be members which would put us in a very dodgy situation.

The current mob - ISIS - like to blow themselves up, so not much chance of them standing for election. In fact, you could say they are a fragmented party!!!

Listened to J Corbyn on the Vine show this morning, good on him for sticking to what he believes, about time. I read somewhere, dont know so dont ask, but it basically said every prime minister wants to go to war because it proves to themselves they have the power over life and death.
Besides that we wouldn't be bombing ISSIS we would be bombing Syrian civilians, women children old folk who are under seige from ISSIS.

Yes after a few cycles on this planet you come to notice that there's never any problem accessing the money to go to war...even when as a country you're being told that austerity is necessary.moto al wrote:

Extremely expensive and strictly single-use.
Personally I wouldn't have a problem bombing ISIS if I thought it would work - but it won't.
28 years of war now in the ME the USA has been involved with (15 Afghanistan, 13 Iraq) and the end result is the world is a much less safe place than when they started, and neither of those countries is 'fixed' (ie has the American model of democracy implemented).
As Einstein said 'the definition of insanity is to repeat the same experiment and expect the result to be different'...
I feel I'm living in Orwellian madhouse.

How did Afghanistan work out for them?brett73 wrote:Let the Russians sort it they won't pussy foot about
Exactly!
Additionally, Putin is bombing the wrong people.
Re: When will we ever learn?
I'm in favour of the Russians being involved but who is going to decide (and communicate the info) where each country is going to be bombing multiple times every day?
The Russians have moved in their latest ground to air missile systems and if one of those inadvertently downs a western aircraft how will we react?
The more I think about it the more this seems to be a bad idea unless it's coordinated by the UN and we're all going in there with one goal which is to wipe out IS with minimal loss of innocent civilians.
