Thankfully, Tyre still works perfectly despite being linked to Google maps, so I can still route plan for my Tomtom Rider (thumbs)

I had a look at it a couple of years ago in its earlier incarnations and couldn't get on with it. Similarly, when I owned a Windows based PC, I had a look at Tyre, or whatever it's called and couldn't get on with that either. Both bits of software seemed clunky and the advantages of using a Google based map over a Garmin based system, limited.
Agree with all you have said other than not being 100% enthusiastic about Mapsource/Basecamp at times. It is not intuitive I feel...

I have started looking at MotoGoLoco again and like you, found it workable nowadays. Tyre is less than agreeable... ;-)

Ah, but it can be made to work...

Try this link as I think this still offers the old google maps options:

Time does march on, so I thought I'd have a fresh look at MotoGoLoco's latest offering. On a Mac it does seem to now be very well put together and a big leap forward on the earlier versions I had looked at. Whilst I haven't tried to use it for any proper route planning and / or to send or run any routes to my GPS device, it seemed to make a good job of creating a dummy 800 mile route from deepest Provence to Calais. This is a journey I know well and can ride just from memory; I use it as a test run to see how well route planning software interprets my request for it to create the same route (some answers are truly bizarre) and how easy it is to modify their suggestions. The quick go I had using MotoGoLoco made a pretty good job of it.

Having now created 50 or more lengthy routes in BaseCamp, I'm pretty comfortable with how it works. I don't see any great need to change but if I find MotoGoLoco better at some things, I'll give it a go, for sure.
Thanks - happy to help if anyone needs any pointers, and likewise to listen if anyone has any feedback.

Much of what's changed since we first launched MotoGoLoco maps came directly off the back of feedback from guys like you who'd used it.

Mapsource and Basecamp exist for Garmin users, but the ability to drag routes about is sadly lacking :-)
I can drag routes around in BaseCamp and Mapsource, with no problem at all. Others can, too.
I have never managed it, despite Whatton's notes on ukgser

Goes all to pot when I try it
Plug your device in and let basecamp read the map and use it. if its a routeable map like the european city ones it will let you pull and push your route however you want. But your device needs to be plugged in

With basecamp to drag a route select the hand tool and then hold alt while dragging the route and it puts a extra waypoint in where you drag it to.

Also with the maps i found it a pain in the arse having to plug my device in to see the maps on basecamp so i copied all my maps to a sd card which is in the pc all the time so no need to keep plugging the device in for them to show.

I cant use google maps anymore the speed is absolutely shocking waiting over 10 seconds every time i zoom, hopefully it will improve when i get fibre optics and go from 0.6mbps to 16mbps

Google seem to have lost the plot with GoogleEarth/Maps currently. The latest version of GE doesn't work with Picasa (which is another Google product!). If they can't get two of their own products to play nicely together, what hope is there with any third-party stuff such as Basecamp etc.? ?

Classic Google Maps URL
Update (April 29, 2015): The instructions from this post no longer work, but you can still use this link: https://maps.google.com/maps/myplaces.

If you've switched to the new Google Maps desktop interface, you can quickly go back to the classic interface by clicking the "Help" icon at the bottom of the page and picking "Return to classic Google Maps". You'll see a message that asks you if you want to permanently go back to the old interface or temporarily switch.

Another option is to bookmark this URL: Classic Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps?output=class). It will always send you to the standard Maps interface and you won't have to open the new interface first.
