Yeah....it's a big bike but felt almost like a race bike when on it. I couldn't believe how nimble it was.
I agree completely....the triple engine has always been Triumph's "ace card". For Yamaha to imitate it is quite a compliment!
I think it's more a case of Triumph imitating Yamaha because they had a DOHC triple available in the '70s & '80s and even though the 750 was a bit of a dog the 850 version was capable of massive mileages (thumbs)

I did suggest that on the MT-09 thread but I don't really care who's imitating who so long as more triples are being produced. The MT-09 is the only bike that might tempt me away from Triumph at the moment. (thumbs)

To be fair to Yamaha, they have got their act together, and released some nice bikes recently. And the new R1 is supposedly awesome! But Triumph/BSA and Laverda released their triples in 1968. Yamaha 1976. And MV triples

Hmm, Triumph Trident & BSA Rocket 3. Horrible old pushrod engines and not British bike manufacturing at its best
Laverda 3C. A proper bike (thumbs)
I still don't see that Yamaha have copied Triumph with a DOHC Triple.

Maybe they copied MV then?

It's going to be pretty difficult for anyone to bring out something original.
I think Kawasaki might be the first with a supercharged production bike even though they and others turbocharged them a few decades ago but that's about it.

Yes,for years now its a Case of a 'newer version of an old theme'. Ceramic engines were the next big thing in design..what happened to those? I think manufacturers are maybe holding back on developing new 'petrol' engines, knowing the 'electric' revolution is just around the corner.
