Forgive me. :P
I chose OnHellas because since doing my first international rally this year in Greec called the Hellas rally lots of my stories start with "On Hellas...."

Have you tried the obvious and used a drill that can be reversed to make sure it will actually go the right way because it could be a defective speedo that needs sending back.

Yeah, tried that and it works OK.
I assume that Triumphs spin the cable the other way?

The speedo drive units in the front wheels of those early hinckley triples could rotate both directions depending on what bike they were fitted to, ie tiger one direction, trident the other, but both will fit either wheel just the cable comes out on the other side.
so just look for the right one.
If it helps, tiger drives on left side of wheel, trident on right, oh they have different ratios too to allow for change in wheel dia

It is still the original speedo drive unit on the bike. I will be checking that the original clocks work correctly (I can't remember, it's over a year ago that they came off).
I know An earlier T.Bird item fits but has a different part number.......
Your info is spot on I think, maybe a new Legend TT item would be the way to go? £102 though
Thanks for your input, it's appreciated.

The drive gear in your front wheel turns the cable in one direction. Unfortunately the custom speedo requires a cable driven in the opposite direction. (The chances are, even if it ran in the correct direction the speedo would not be accurate.) Not sure there is an easy solution other than going to a digital digital unit.
Mm, that was my conclusion.
But the speedo looks so nice and I definitely don't want a digital one.
Accuracy isn't so important, although would be nice.
Maybe I need to research other speedo units. Gotta be small though, that one fits so well in the cut down/machined top yolk.

Thanks for your feedback and ideas.
Daytona is manufacturing a nice small analog looking digital speedo with brushed stainless steel casing. and it is easy to install. or there are plenty chineese rip-offs on ebay but not sure about quality.

KOSO 48mm/1.9" Analogue display electronic speedo. c. 85pounds.

I have one of these on my CCM & they are superb quality.
Head unit is a stepper motor & can be set up with great accuracy.
