I had a g650gs which at the time I bought I chose over a sertao based on price alone. The bike was a wee cracker never let me down for a second, I have now changed to a 800 and the weight difference is definitely noticeable. The 800 feels a lot heavier and much much higher.
I'm a big lad and found the 650 to be a little sluggish the 800 is so much more smoother and snappier. I also find that for my size the 800 is much more suited but in saying that the 650 was a great machine. If I was buying a bike for just messing about on I wouldn't hesitate for another 650 and if a sertao was sitting there I'd opt for it.

The G650GS Sertao is a great wee bike...........Mine cost just under £6k new with ABS and heated grips last year which is great value
The standard G650GS(£4995 on the road with ABS and heated grips) is around a third of the price of a fully loaded 1200GSA but certainly not a third of the bike...........Good for around 70mpg aswell
G650GS..........Less is more!
FP.

show me a modern bike, which does not corrode, if commuted all year round, especially bikes, build to the cost. co-workers 1200gs is all coroded after commuting in all weathers for the last three years :blink:Will wrote:Sat on one today felt heavy and looked pretty corroded for 2 year old bike with 5k

Re: Is There A Reason No One Rides A BMW Sertao?
Thanks again all, it does seem to be a bike that people have but don't talk about much, so I'm smugly pleased I asked and gave everyone the chance. I'm still torn, part of me says why bother at all, 95% of my riding is in London after all where having a 125cc is just fine, but as yesterday's ride up to tyre Adventure Bike Shop open day reminded me, dual carriageways aren't that much fun and if you want to get from A to B relatively quickly you end up on one. So at that point I think the Sertao would be perfect, a good do anything bike, nimble enough for town with enough oomph for motorways. But then I ride along the Embankment on a sunny Autumn evening with a Royal Enfield next to me, and decide that it looks so full of character and so tweak-able. Secretly, I really want a custom Triumph Scrambler.
I need to win the lottery...

Had mine a little over a month after selling my GS1200, I dont feel at all short changed at all, it travels at the speed i choose ride at. Its been over to France travelling at motorway speed (legal)amazing mpg, comfortable, the weight is not an issue to me,would i go back to the 1200? No this for me does everything i could ask for with the added bonus of a huge smile and money in my pocket (yorkshire man).It may not suit everyone but for me i love it.

Come take a look at my K100LT..1987...45k and used in all weathers...apart from the exhaust heat shield there isn't any rust of corrosion anywhere..it's not like new but it's pretty good. But i guess this isn't a new bike.V_King wrote:show me a modern bike, which does not corrode, if commuted all year round, especially bikes, build to the cost. co-workers 1200gs is all coroded after commuting in all weathers for the last three years :blink:Will wrote:Sat on one today felt heavy and looked pretty corroded for 2 year old bike with 5k

My old 955i Tiger was the same. Used in winter with regular ACF50 and meticulous maintenance, it was a minter when I sold it 6 years old with 30K on the clock.Mike101 wrote:Come take a look at my K100LT..1987...45k and used in all weathers...apart from the exhaust heat shield there isn't any rust of corrosion anywhere..it's not like new but it's pretty good.
