They aren't thirsty really Mine gets around 180mile before the count up starts and I'm told that can go to twenty miles.
But if you ride it hard it can go down to about 90miles :whistle:

Measure it in smiles per gallon and you'll get loads for your money.

There's a lot of detractors who believe the rubbish put round by the tractor drivers.

Had my 950 over 4 years, now got 43,000 miles up, never been stuck at the side of the road. (fuel pump, biggest weak point same as XRV and many others, stopped 3 times, each time just needed a tap to get going, carry a spare just in case)

MPG averages at 45 mpg, which in my book is perfectly acceptable for such a sporty feeling bike, that's 180 miles to the light with 35 in reserve. I have had getting on for 55mpg when on a slow run.

The 950's have a great character, pull from nothing to chug up rocky climbs off road, go like stink on road if you want, or roll back and chill at cruising speeds.

Servicing? Pretty easy once you've done it a couple of times.

Spares? Not stupidly expensive and available.(Really don't know how people put a negative spin on this,)

There are some 'known issues' which are well documented on Orange Crush, but none of them are major or deal stoppers IMO, just need a bit of informed preventative maintenance.

Would absolutely recommend it to anyone in the market for a true do anything or go anywhere bike. In addition to that they look like they are achieving sought after status and values look like holding up well.

Ktm as a company seem a bit shit as far as warranty/dealer back up on new bikes goes, but that's not a problem if you're looking at the 950.

SO just get it, check it over, do the known issue's and enjoy.

Good reply Frog, especially the bit about the tractor drivers. There's one on here who's bike is always better then your bike

41,000 on mine, I've done 38,000 of those miles tarmac and trail. Best big trailie by a mile.

Ive rode the 950 and a 990

I was offered a new 990 adv in replacement for the rc8 but after a test ride Im glad I decided against it

Who really cares about mpg when it puts the grin factor on, I am no spanner head but after learning how to do a full service it really is not that bad as everyone say's it is. It takes me 20mins now to take the carbs off and you are there.

Edit: There's an after market underseat tank by Rade, even a side auxiliary tank if needs a must.

Well I've kind of set my path rolling. Tonight I started to strip down the Tenere and all the stuff I don't want to sell with it.

It's getting a full professional clean next Wednesday then up for sale.

I have the money for something else..so just need to find something or I won't have a bike for my own rally...now that would be embarrassing.

So if anybody on here as a 950 or a 990 for sale...sub £6500 please let me know.

The 950/990 is a surprising beastie. After blatting across the Plain at 30mph :whistle: in and out of bomb holes and front wheel swallowing craters I thought " that was fun and a bit quick maybe?" to turn round and see Frog a few metres behind with an equally big grin was a little off putting...I was on a 530
