I was just wondering ...... about the new big adventure bikes and going RTW?

It's funny how whenever I meet a distant aquaintance who starts off, "I never knew you were a biker" & then quickly moves to their friend in America who "Rides a Harley Davidson" with a big smirk on their face as if it's a bigger name drop than knowing Steve McQueen.

Probably the same 6'6" x 18 stone Germans who threw those bored out Scheck R80's around in the last of the ISDT's.
Can't remember if the Americans entered their machines in the ISDT's, they were mostly on Triumphs if I recall correctly.

i guess it depends alot on the route ..
ibe never been further than turkey or morroc

but i know that the rougher it gets the lighter id want it to be

not sitting on the fence too much the latest 1190s 1200s v fours would be very low on my list ......

in some of the places ive been 35 mph seems pretty fast at times :silly:

good progress at 60mph /70mph and ease of use on tracks at 65mpg appeals to me
im not in any hurry ..

i used to be fast boy once ...100mph motorway stuff is ..a waste of petrol time and brainpower ...almost certainly opffset by fatuige concentration ..frustration ..[these slow bartsards pottering at 85 blocking my way kind of thing ..concern of tyre wear ,and pain in ass expensive petrol stops .a feeling of paranoia and a risk to the wallet and licence ...you really dont gain time and if you do ..you see infinatly less ..you may ride hard for 8 hours a day and enjoy the buzz ..and why not

but for 28 days on the bounce be my guest

if im 45 mins behind after 10 hours ... just leave one in the pump for me when you get to the bar :laugh:

OK ,here's my tu'pence worth !!!!

Not planning on a RTW trip ...........the evil money thing !!!!

Anyway want to do either The West coast of Africa or the Stans in spring 2014, so went out and bought a 2010 Yamaha XTZ660 as from what iv'e red these seem to fit my bill.

I also own a 1996 DR650 that i've put over 28k kms on in 19 months, Morocco/Pyrenees and loads of local off roading.

Don't get me wrong "everyones differant" but i reckon the XTZ will be up for sale !!!

Great bike but there's no way i could fix half of it and it's 30kilos heavier !!!!

A '96 DR650 eh Phil, just what I'm looking for ...... :whistle: as you know from my other post. I think I might do the same when I get a DR650 and sell the XT660Z. I reckon the DR would be enough for any adventures I'm likely to get involved in, so best let someone with serious intent take the Tenere on longer travels.
Do you have any pics of yours? maybe on other posts or reports here? Is it modded for your trips away? Thanks, Mike
